The Best and Worst of Grimm Season 4

at .  Updated at .

It's all fun and games until someone loses their head: enjoy "The Best and Worst of Grimm Season 4a".

1. Best: Trubel comes into her own

When Trubel first came onto the scene late in Season 3, she was little more than a disturbed, violent young woman fleeing from the monsters she saw everywhere. By mid-Season 4, she evolved into a strong and confident Grimm - and willing to think of more than just herself. In Season 4 Episode 7, Trubel left Portland with Josh Porter to protect him from his Hundjager pursuers.

2. Worst: Adalind falls to pieces

From the very beginning, Adalind had always been meddling in matters way beyond her abilities, but at least in past seasons she showed some spine, especially when she was on the run with Meisner in mid-Season 3. In Season 4, however, her single-minded obsession to recover her child led to nothing but frustration on the part of the viewer - she literally walked right into Viktor's dungeon in Season 4 Episode 2, and things pretty much went downhill from there.

3. Best: Nick gets his Grimm powers back

Nick spent most of the first half of the season powerless, forced to rely on Trubel as a seeing-eye-Grimm. But then Renard's mom came to the rescue, providing the ritual to restore Nick's Grimm abilities! This required Nick to sleep with Juliette-as-Adalind, which was definitely funnier than one might expect. It was well worth the wait to see the look of joy on Nick's face when he declared, once again, that he is a Grimm.

4. Worst: Sgt. Wu and the Truth About Wesen

By the end of Season 3, the dry and witty Sergeant Wu seemed ready to demand immediate answers from Nick and Hank about all the Weird Stuff that had been happening in Portland. Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons it took until Season 4 Episode 8 (!) for Nick and Hank to finally admit that it was time to explain to Wu that he wasn't actually losing his marbles. Of course, then stuff happened, and Wu ended the episode in the drunk tank. Many fans feel that the popular character was done a disservice by waiting so long to bring him in on the Truth About Wesen.

5. Best: The Golem from Jewish mythology

There have been a few creatures throughout the series that are mysterious in origin, with that sense of "otherness" - Vulcanalis, La Llorona, and now the Golem from Season 4 Episode 4. "Grimm" has a tendency to play fast and loose with mythology in order to fit certain creatures in with its Wesen universe, but this time they were surprisingly faithful to the story of the Golem in Jewish folklore. It was a change of pace from the usual monster-of-the-week: the Golem wasn't evil or homicidal, it was just trying to protect a child.

6. Worst: Another seasonal affliction Christmas Wesen

It was fine the first time with the Krampus in Season 3's Christmas-themed episode, "The Twelve Days of Krampus." But then the writers insisted on another season-related affliction for Season 4 Episode 7, "The Grimm Who Stole Christmas." While the gremlins themselves were fairly entertaining as the wreaked havoc, destroyed Christmas decorations, and gorged on fruitcake, was it really necessary to make it another conveniently Christmas-timed affliction?

7. Best: Enter Elizabeth Lascelles

Easily the best addition of the season, Elizabeth Lascelles is everything we ever wanted in a Hexenbiest. Not only is she a powerful witch, she is perceptive and incredibly protective of her family. Her first action is to save her son's life with a magical transfusion - and then she is the one to figure out how to restore Nick's Grimm abilities. Plus, she has some of the best lines in every episode in which she appears. In Season 4 Episode 6, Elizabeth left Portland to track down her granddaughter, and many fans are hoping for an awesome showdown between Elizabeth and Kelly Burkhardt.
