Dermot Mulroney to Star in Remake of The Rockford Files

at .

In the latest example of a network rebooting a formerly successful drama, NBC is bringing back The Rockford Files this fall.

The original series aired from 1974-1980. It starred James Garner in the role of a private investigator named Jim Rockford, a character that will now be played by...

... Dermot Mulroney!

The reboot, which will be produced by David Shore of House fame, will mark Mulroney's first small screen role. He's probably best known for appearing opposite Julia Roberts in My Best Friend's Wedding.

The success of remakes have been a mixed bag over the last year or so. The CW is likely to cancel Melrose Place, but 90210 has already been picked up for a third season.

Considering Jay Leno's move back to The Tonight Show and NBC's general awfulness, it's no surprise that the network would try to revive a franchise that went off the air thirty years ago. We have serious doubts about how it will go.
