We're huge fans of the Wiggum family, so it's shocking that a Simpsons episode that focused on a friendship between Homer and Clancy would be so mediocre.  The episode had a fun Simpsons-style setup with Homer being arrested for mistakenly holding up a bank and stuck doing community service under the Chief's eye.

After bonding over a lunchbox full with every type of parm sandwich you could ever think of, two of the funniest, overweight citizens of Springfield entered into a friendship that resulted in a buddy cop adventure.  Unfortunately, when nearly every hilarious bit that could have been done about cops has been done over the previous twenty seasons, there wasn't much new material for "Chief of Hearts."

Our favorite moment from their scenes together was probably Snake popping up from behind the squad car and the Chief telling him get now has him on burglary and killing a moment.

If the main story wasn't disappointing enough, the side story with Bart becoming addicted to battle balls is barely worthy of mention.  We'll end this short review with some decent Simpsons quotes from the half hour and the hope that next week brings a better episode.

Homer: Community service? But that's work! What about jail?
Judge: Community service!
Homer: No, I want to go to jail. Free food, tear drop tattoos, library books that come to you. I'll serve anything but the community! | permalink

Ralph: My not-dead grandma sent it from Tokyo.

Chief Wiggum: I'm gonna let you in on a little secret. Cops don't have a lot of friends. Civilians are afraid of us and other cops just remind of us things we want to forget. That's why your friendship is so special to me.
Homer: Chief, me too.
Snake: Umm, you know I've been back here for like ten hours. Any chance of a bathroom break?
Chief Wiggum: Thanks a lot jail bird. Now I have you on burglary and killing a moment. | permalink
