Eddie Izzard has landed his first extended television role since FX canceled The Riches.

The British comic will recur throughout season three of United States of Tara, playing a psychology professor who takes a keen interest in the show's title character.

This Showtime comedy begins production in September and will premiere its new season in 2011.

Mostly known as a movie star, Izzard has voiced a character on The Simpsons.
