Edward James Olmos is trading in his admirable outfit for gang colors.

In his first television role since playing the iconic character of William Adama on Battlestar Galactica, the veteran actor will guest star on an October episode of CSI: NY.

According to TV Guide, Olmos will portray a former gang leader, recently released from prison, who butts heads with Gary Sinise's Mac Taylor. This detective put him away 15 years earlier.

In other CSI: NY news, the premiere will jump ahead five months in time when it airs in September. This will help explain the addition of Sela Ward and the departure of Melina Kanakaredes' Stella Bonasera.
