Fringe Preview: Joshua Jackson Teases an Epic Callback, Walter Goes on a Journey

at .

On tonight's Fringe, the team will be searching for a missing Walter and fighting off a band of Observers.

Last month, when I visited the show's set in Vancouver (trip courtesy of Warner Bros. TV) and spoke with the cast while, the series was filming this episode and I watched a scene being filmed.

Can I say anything about it? Of course not.

But Fox has released two videos that set it up. In the first, Walter finds a crucial tape:

In the second, we see the journey that Walter took to help him find the clue in the future:

On the set, meanwhile, Joshua Jackson talked in depth about this episode...

On the scene filmed in the hallway: We are in the midst of [finding]the device that gets introduced in episode 1. So that becomes kind of ...  the motivational [and] plot device of every episode mostly this season. So [tonight's scene] is the direct consequence of one of the pieces of Walter’s plan that he’s hidden. And it takes us into this hallway. He’s hidden a key component that actually... I think will probably be the, for all the like, serious Fringe-heads, probably the coolest reveal of the episode -- what it is that’s in there.

On the surprise callback:: This is one of those things you don’t want to tease it too much, because maybe everyone would be like, “Eh.” (laughter) The thing that we reveal in the episode, if you’re geeked out on the mythology of the show, is going to be one of those like, knock-your-socks-off moments.

Because we’ve done that well. We’ve mined our own history well for things going forward. And that’s a smart show, that takes things that either weren’t intended or were intended and is sort of engaged by its own mythology and sort of lets the story spin out of things that we’ve already established. So something that seemed incidental is going to come back to be crucial. And ultimately It gets one of our characters to his or her natural finishing state in a way that is going to make the original intention -- or that thing that seemed incidental -- seem so f-cking cool!

Fringe airs tonight at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.

Fringe Season 5 Episode 6 Quotes

Don't you see Peter? I'm not safe. It's my mind. Ever since the pieces of my brain were re-implanted, it's been changing me back into the man I was before. Bit by bit, I'm losing myself Peter. I'm losing the man that you helped me become.

Walter: Please son, whatever happens, don't let me go.
Peter: I won't dad, I promise.
