Vegas Review: Not So Good For the Soul

at .

Sometimes, confessions are good for the soul. And sometimes they are just soul crushing. In "Two of a Kind," Jack Lamb's experienced a little bit of both.

Savino Has His Hands Full

How far Jack was willing to go to keep his secret quickly became clear when Savino pushed too far. Not even the fear of a murder rap or losing the love of his life could get Jack to agree to be under Savino's thumb. Vince simply pushed the law man too hard.

I was kind of disappointed in Jack's confession to Mia. It was too short and lacked drama. He should have explained how he was lured out and captured, not to mention shown her the burns from the cattle prod. I know Mia needed time to digest such horrifying information, but it felt like Jack gave her too little of the story for her to truly understand what he went through.

Jack finally telling Ralph was a little more satisfying. I knew it wouldn't take him long to put the pieces together once he knew about the phone calls to the Sheriff's station.  The fingerprint swap just solidified his theory, but I was not surprised that he'd cover Jack. He's not about to let his baby brother go down for murder, especially not for a guy like Rizzo.

The one scene where my heart did break was when Jack admitted he had done it all because he couldn't bear to lose Mia and now he'd probably lost her anyway. It made me wish we could know how she would have reacted if he had told her the truth from the beginning.

Over at the Savoy, I began to wonder how the FBI was getting such great information about Vince. They knew the skim back to Chicago had been doubled and they knew how Vince was sending it there. Was it just solid police work or did they have someone on the inside?

I couldn't help but wonder if Laura was informing on her husband and his operation from Chicago. It seems foolishly dangerous but Laura was plenty angry with Vince when she left. It wouldn't surprise me if she made a deal to give her and the kids a new life.

Also, what has happened to Catherine? She's suddenly been struck with a severe case of tunnel vision. If a case won't lead her back to Savino, it seemed she simply didn't care.

As for her date with the FBI agent, I really couldn't blame her. It's not like Ralph is making a move.

The murder of the week was kind of tame except for the fact that the man had two wives.  As Ralph said in this Vegas quote

Two wives? You've got to be one hell of a juggler. | permalink

I don't think anyone juggles that well. Not for long. Not even in Vegas.
