Shameless Review: Desperate Times, Desperate Measures

at .

Goodbye, Mandy - and welcome back Karen! In "When There's a Will" Lip finally unleashed his true feelings about Mandy's constant presence in his life.

Then again, with his manipulative ex-girlfriend Karen back in town, what did you expect?

Lip and Fiona

It hasn't been much of a secret that Lip has felt overwhelmed by Mandy's presence on Shameless season 3. Mandy is constantly at the Gallagher house acting like Lip's girlfriend, doing his laundry, helping his siblings and offering to pleasure him. That sounds great and all but there's one big problem: Lip was never over Karen. So what's Mandy Skank-o-vich (V's word not mine) to do?

She asked Lip point blank whether he wanted her there or not. Unfortunately, Mandy just wasn't expecting Lip's answer. After all, he drove to Milwaukee to help her rescue her little "sister" and apologized for using her and threw her a fireworks show. I've made it no secret that I'm not a Karen fan, but her influence on Lip isn't the only reason I wasn't excited to see the little blonde ball of trouble back in our lives.

Apparently Karen told Timmy Wong's family that her house wasn't a suitable environment for Hymie. After ruining a number of lives and running away from home, she decided to take away the one thing making her mother happy. Sheila is the one person who has always been there for Karen and always loved her. Karen's lucky that Sheila welcomed her home as easily as she did.

Speaking of home, the Gallagher kids were fighting another set of Gallaghers to keep a roof over their heads. Since Patrick filed Aunt Ginger's fake will right before Fiona filed her version, Patrick now owns the home the kids have been living in for all of these years. With a meeting of the minds led by Fiona, the kids mapped out their limited options. Leave it to the two younger kids to take things to a whole new level! Carl tried to kill the man for Pete's sake!

I realize you've had sketchy parental role models, okay? But as your newly appointed guardian can we agree that offing people is not cool? Can we get on the same page with that? | permalink

Fiona was probably correct when she lamented that she's raising a sociopath. Then Deb, who is usually the good one, accused Patrick of molesting her thus getting him arrested and getting Fiona the house. I guess desperate times call for desperate measures.

Nothing could make Jimmy feel desperate enough to clean up blood and roaches though. That scene honestly made me feel a little sick. I think Jimmy felt sick in another way when he had drinks with his old med school friends and realized that maybe spending his life with Fiona isn't really what he should be doing.

There was a lot happening with Kev, V and their last ditch effort for a baby, this week. There was also Frank's new clingy best friend and Sheila's attempt at political volunteer work. What did you think of the latest episode of Shameless?
