The Vampire Diaries

The Vampire Diaries has found its new Alaric.

Okay, not really, but Australian actor Rick Cosnett is set to come on board the CW drama as a professor at Whitmore College named Dr. Wes Maxfield.

As reported by TV Guide, Elena and Caroline's teacher will be both intelligent and conceited, while also holding a secret that likely has a lot to do with certain members of the undead parading around Mystic Falls.

The Vampire Diaries Season 5 kicks off on October 3 and Cosnett will be one of a few new faces in town. Other key recurring players will include:

Shaun Sipos as an upperclassman who gets close to Elena.
Janina Gavanka as an ex-girlfriend of Stefan's with a revenge-filled agenda.
Kendrick Sampson as a student named Jesse.
