House of Lies Season 4 Episode 6 Review: Trust Me, I'm Getting Plenty of Erections

at .  Updated at .

Stock prices play a big role on House of Lies Season 4 Episode 6 as Marty, Jeannie, Clyde and Doug await news that could lead to a cool $9.2 million bonus. But are Marty and Jeannie getting along any better?

What kind of insight does the audience get into Roscoe's journey these past few months?

What kind of app do those proto-fascist mavericks have? Do we even care? Let's roll around and dig in!

The Job Offer - House of Lies

Malcolm again made a quick appearance in tonight's episode and thoroughly ingratiated himself into Marty, Jeremiah and Roscoe's home. Am I the only one who just wants him to go away? The main reason I want him to vanish is because he adds nothing to the narrative of the series.

A lot of things he says are entirely presumptuous because he has not really known his brother in a really long time. All he sees is the provocative surface of Marty, which is not what makes him interesting in the least. Plus, I love it when Marty puts him in his place.

Oh my God, Malcolm. You do know that's Dad's girlfriend, right?

Marty

Roscoe has always had a special place in my heart because of his individuality and the support he receives from Marty. But when the one parent you can really count on winds up in jail, it is going to open up a lot of wounds and that was explored in greater detail.

Overall, this was one of the heavier episodes of the season. Roscoe has become an evolving character over the course of this series and this was a great look at what makes him tick, if only because it once again demonstrated how talented Donis Leonard Jr is. Roscoe also had outrageous and silly lines like this one.

Kate Spade? Seriously? Get out of my face.

The meat of the installment, however, was dedicated to a "secret" clause in the tiny fine print of the contract with Ellis Gage Hightower that stated that if his company stock prices rise up to $200 a share, Kaan and Associates are entitled to a $9.2 million dollar bonus. Marty always lusted after money and is unabashed in his greed.

Thing is, real fortune has nothing to do with chance or luck. "Fortuna" is bullshit. Real fortune is calculated. It's relentless, fucking criminal even. You have to make fortune happen.

Marty

But while Marty does his best to juggle everything like always, his human side is coming out more and more. This season has definitely enriched his character in a lot of ways. Marty, though, has to decide if he's willing to sacrifice a relationship with his unborn daughter because he cannot see past or forgive his betrayal by Jeannie. Doug continues to be the brunt of the joke though.

Doug: It's not going up, Marty.
Marty: They have pills for that.
Clyde: It's so brave of you to talk about it. Usually, guys that can't get erections don't want to say...
Doug: Trust me, I get plenty of erections.
Clyde: Feel like you're overcompensating now.

Kelsey offered Jeannie a job as CFO of the app company that's unrelated to the Uber for Doctors app. I still don't care what that app is for, but judging by the atmosphere of the employees (excluding Kelsey), I am once again embarrassed for my generation because I'm convinced it's an app millions of people my age would love.

When Doug and Clyde questioned Jeannie about the job offer, it somehow evolved into a "Dead Poets Society" tribute. (Cue my weeping about the profound loss of Robin Williams.) I just cannot wait until Doug and Clyde find out about Marty being the father of Jeannie's baby because we all know that won't be a secret much longer, right?

Did anyone else catch some Showtime cross promotion in the form of Artemis Pebdani as the ultrasound technician who also portrays Flo Packers on Masters of Sex?
