Shameless Season 5 Episode 10 Review: South Side Rules

at .  Updated at .

Remember when I wanted Sammi to get more integrated into the Gallagher family? I TAKE IT BACK!

Sammi has officially eclipsed Frank as my least favorite character thanks to her cruel actions at the end of Shameless Season 5 Episode 10. I understand she's hurting, but to take it out on Ian, who has literally done nothing to her, was truly abhorrent.

With only a few episodes left, I'm betting Fiona and company will truly make her pay for this one.

Frank Gets Dumped - Shameless

It's probably appropriate to start with Ian's storyline this week, as he truly struggled to adjust to life on medication. He was also having a hard time adjusting to the new Mickey, who was treating him kid gloves.

While it's nice to see Mickey so loving and involved with his partner's recovery, it's hard for Ian to look at loving Mickey and not feel like he's being pitied. For years Mickey was the rough, fight first and talk later kind of guy that Ian was drawn to. The Mickey of today is far from the Mickey of yesteryears and Ian was fed up.

Their tussle on the baseball field was a chance for them to let off some aggression and let go of some of the pain they were keeping in. From there, they were able to come together and I would have liked to see them go on a proper date.

Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be seeing that anytime soon, since Ian has been detained by the Army, thanks to Sammi. When she was listening to Ian and tending to his burned hand (which looked awful by the way), I thought she was being caring and understanding. Instead, she used his declarations as a way to get back at the family she feels did her wrong.

It's a shame when someone you love gets taken away, isn't it?

Sammi

Well, okay Sammi. Hope you feel better about yourself.

I hope Sammi eventually finds out that Frank is the one who put into motion the events that led to Chuckie's arrest! Speaking of Frank, he was off getting shunned by Bianca.

If I woke up and Frank Gallagher was in my kitchen, I would have freaked out as well. One glance at Frank and you know he's bad news. So, while you may have had some innocent fun over a few days, you can't very well just let Frank mosey around your house. He may never leave!

Turns out though, Frank has actually grown to care for Bianca and he claims he's not even if it for the scam. Might this be the woman that finally brings some heart and light into Frank's world? I guess we'll have to wait and see, as by episode's end it appears Bianca is willing to accept Frank into her life.

Fiona was busy trying to reconnect with Gus, but when tasked between being there for Sean and talking to her distant hubby, she chose Sean. Now, Sean is going through a tough time and it was nice of Fiona to look out for him, but I think he's 100% correct when he calls her out. Part of the reason she's there is because of Sean's earlier rejection.

And let's be serious, Fiona does like to latch onto people whose problems are worse than her own.

Cuz when you focus on other people's problems, it's a lot easier to ignore your own.

Sean [to Fiona]

Preach it, Sean.

The other happenings of the week were a pretty mixed bag. I don't know what the deal is with Lip, Helene and Mr. Helene but it didn't take long for Lip to embrace the odd arrangement. He even felt comfortable enough to eat omelets with them and sleep over!

He was in for a bit of a rude awakening when he brought an injured student over to the house, hoping Helene's husband would help. Unfortunately, he wasn't a medical doctor and Helene didn't really care about Lip's plea to help protect Kev and his residents.

You know, you have a choice right now to recognize that you are a promising young college student, not some ghetto outlaw. Stop behaving like the world is out to get you when it is so clearly dropping gifts at your feet. Or you keep doing what you're doing and you end up in a cell somewhere angry and out of options.

Helene [to Lip]

It was an interesting scene to have Helene kind of cut Lip down and make him see that he has it pretty good at college. I think Lip knows that, but it's also hard to be all in when you've grown up on the south side with Frank and Monica for parents. Lip's life will never be white and black.

Kev went home! He and V didn't have an actual conversation, but him heading home finally was a step in the right direction, right?

Also, what was up with him staying at the college with the babies? This show can be ludicrous at times, but that was really odd. How was anyone okay with that?

In the Debbie Gallagher world of poor decisions, she decided to go all the way with Derek and ignore the doctors warning to not have unprotected sex for 48 hours. I can't imagine they would have gone through all this to not have Debbie at least go through some kind of pregnancy scare down the road.

I hope I'm wrong, but you never know.

Okay, what did you guys think of this week's installment? Do you think Debbie will get pregnant? What will Frank and Bianca do next? Did you miss Carl? What is going to happen to Sammi now?

Make sure to leave a comment so we can talk about everything!

Shameless Season 5 Episode 10 Quotes

No, just mentally ill.

Ian [to Sammi]

V: I want the old Kev back. The one who looked at me like the world stopped spinning.
Fiona: He's there. He's just preoccupied.
