29 Epic Elena Gilbert Moments: Say It Isn't So, Nina Dobrev!

at .

We're all still reeling from the news that Nina Dobrev is leaving The Vampire Diaries. In a statement released yesterday on the star's Intagram account, she thanked fans for an amazing six seasons but said it's time to move on.

What will that mean for the actress who gave us Elena Gilbert? We're not sure, yet, but we're certain only good things are in her future.

As for the rest of us, however, we'll be over here crying with faces not nearly as pretty as Elena Gilbert's cry face. Or rejoicing. Some fans seem quite split on the news of Dobrev's departure.

Regardless, let's take a look at 29 Epic Elena Gilbert moments to remember why we fell in love with Dobrev, doppelgangers, and waged an all-out war between Delena and Stelena shippers worldwide.

How will Elena Gilbert depart The Vampire Diaries Season 6? We're not sure, but if history is any indication, it will be nothing short of epic.

We've seen characters die, turn into ghosts, and come back to life. We've seen magical rings which turn those who wear them slightly crazy. (Okay, a lot crazy.) We've seen vampires transition and refuse to transition.

And then we lost Liz Forbes to an actual medical illness which vampire blood couldn't cure.

The possibilities for Elena Gilbert's end are, well, endless. Sound off, TV Fanatics, how do YOU want to see her go? And while you're there in the comments, go ahead and tell us your favorite Elena Gilbert moment!

The Vampire Diaries Season 6 Episode 18 airs Thursday, April 16th, at  8/7c on The CW, but you can relive your favorite Elena Gilbert moments when you watch The Vampire Diaries online right here at TV Fanatic!

Vampire Diaries Quotes

Dear Diary, a chipmunk asked me my name today. I told him it was Joe. That lie, will haunt me, forever.

Dear Elena, yes you heard that correctly. Hell has frozen over. I'm writing it all down. Granted, I'm half a bottle in thanks to my 1950 Chateau Cheval Blanc, a bottle I waited 65 years to open. I used to spend nights sitting in my wine cellar convincing myself I could hear it age, tannins growing, fermenting, but appreciating its beauty didn't make time go by any faster. The bottle just laid there on its shelf, torturing me while I waited for Katherine and time stood still. Eventually I convinced myself that no sip of that wine could ever taste as good as I dreamt it would. And that is the story of why I drink bourbon. I don't know who I am without you, but I know that as long as I'm with you, time will stand still. So who is Damon Salvatore without Elena Gilbert? A selfish friend, a jealous brother, a horrible son? Or maybe with a little luck, I'll do right by you. Because you may be a thousand miles away or a hundred years away, but you're still here with me and my heart is right there in that coffin with you. Until you come back to me.
