NBC Cancels Constantine, State of Affairs

A pair of freshman dramas will not graduate to their sophomore seasons on NBC.

With cancelations and renewals coming fast and furiously across the television dial this week, the network announced this afternoon that neither Constantine nor State of Affairs will return this fall.

Both programs never found a consistent footing after semi-strong premieres last year.

Showrunner Daniel Cerone Tweeted the sad Constantine news to followers, implying he's hard at work finding a new home for the DC Comics-inspired series:

NBC a "no" for Season 2. Warner Bros working hard to find #Constantine new home. Stay active. Stream. Tweet. #SaveConstantine #Hellblazers

Katherine Heigl's comeback vehicle, meanwhile, was slammed by critics and has to be considered a letdown by network executives.

NBC president Robert Greenblatt said as much to TV Line in January:

“It’s a show that I think is a really fine show, so I’m scratching my head a little bit about why we can’t get more people to be there for it."

NBC Quotes

Jake: This is why you don't have an arch-nemesis, Terry, because you focus on the wrong details.
Terry: Maybe I don't have an arch-nemesis because I solve all my crimes.
Jake: That's a pretty fucked up thing to say to me.

Amy: You know, when I first met you, I thought you were the most annoying person I'd ever met. With your moments of beauty, seize the day crap like you'd watched Dead Poet's Society too many times.
Jonah: Shows what you know; you can't watch Dead Poet's Society too many times.
Amy: I hated how cheesy you were. I hated how woke you were; I hated how often you used the word “artisan.” But most of all, I hated how you believed that life could be better than it was. And yet, here we are. And my life is so much better than it was. Because of you.
