Dominion Season 2 Episode 9 Review: The Seed of Evil

at .  Updated at .

So much was left up in the air on Dominion Season 2 Episode 9. It was a total tease.

Don't get me wrong, there were definitely some interesting moments. Arika's flashbacks were refreshing and the Gates twist caught me by surprise. But if I were watching this on Netflix, there's no question I would have kept going.

I know "patience is a virtue," but the prophet just returned to Mallory. What?!?

Claire has definitely changed. The Lady of the City proved she wasn't messing around anymore by attacking the V1s, just as she had promised Zoe. Naturally, David was just worried about saving his own ass. Can you believe he convinced troops to fight and then hightailed it out of there? What a slimeball, he's got to go down.

I'll be honest, I was much more curious to see what Julian would do with the amphora. Just when the drop of darkness to the eye started to do its work, we cut back to Vega. I realize this builds tension, but I've got very little sympathy for either David or Arika. It's no surprise his "spy" gave David up. I will say, I was not expecting the Arika flashback. It's about time we learn a little more about the queen of Helena

She just had to tell Claire that Zoe wanted peace, didn't she? Ouch!

Claire: I killed the wrong person.
Gates: Claire, you couldn't have known.
Claire: No I couldn't have known, but that doesn't make it right. Zoe is still dead.
Gates: Listen to me.
Claire: No. I thought she took my baby but she didn't. She deserved to die, but not for that. Another one of my mistakes.

That kamikaze 8-ball bomber was a waste, but Julian's army lying in stasis was creepy as hell. Would Michael flying over them wake the creatures? I couldn't believe they chose to tiptoe across, then Alex tripped over one. Sure it created drama, but it wasn't a smart move for the Chosen One. Julian left Gabriel to simmer in the darkness, then we cut back to Vega. Yeah, I was starting to get a little frustrated.

Still, David ended up in the bar William was preaching at. Doesn't it seem like he bewitched those people too easily? I figured their reunion would prove interesting. I liked that David double-checked to make sure he wasn't seeing things again. I'm not sure why David would think William would be pleased to see him, but I loved the Jesus/Judas comparison. Is it possible William is now a dyad?

Poor Gates kept coughing up blood. I knew the moment Arika mentioned she had a plan in motion it involved an antidote, but would Gates betray Claire as well? I had my doubts, because I've never quite trusted him.

Gates: You did this to me?
Arika: Yes.
Gates: So what you just want to watch me suffer. Is that your game?
Arika: Oh I don't care for suffering at all, not unless it has a purpose. And you Mr. Foley, well, you have a purpose. The poison I gave you moves slowly. With all the damage you've done to your liver over the years, I guess you have just under 36 hours. But it's not an exact science.
Gates: So let me hypothesize. If I let you out, then you give me the cure?
Arika: Close, you let me out and fly with me to Helena. Once there, I'll give you the antidote.

Back in New Delphi, Julian finally attempted to take over Gabriel's body. I'll be honest, Simon Merrells' performance as Julian has been so captivating anything taking place in Vega pales by comparison. Anyone else think for a second the possession worked? Then he spit Lyrae right back out.

Gabriel temporarily possessing Julian was a given, but part of me hoped he wouldn't die. What was in the box Julian opened? Would it help heal him? Pete was spared, and Gabriel now controls the army. Things are not looking so hot for Vega.

It took most of the season for this reunion, but when Claire saw Alex in the security feed it was worth it. I got a real sense the show's direction was about to change. Noma explained Michael was too weak, which is why he didn't fly. Did that vision of Mallory have to strike then?

Julian's army proved fairly useless, even before Claire's troops arrived. Was she seriously upset seeing Alex and Noma kiss? Did she forget all about Gates that quickly? I guess they're both going to call it even and move forward.

Claire: I dreamed about you coming home, but I thought it was just a dream.
Alex: Well here I am.
Claire: Yeah, you're alive.
Alex: So are you.
Claire: I bombed Gabriel's aerie.
Alex: You couldn't have known I was in the aerie. Was a hell of a move. You almost got the bastard.
Claire: But I didn't.
Alex: Next time. Hey, what's wrong?
Claire: I was shot.
Alex: Shot? How?
Claire: I'm so sorry.
Alex: Sorry?
Claire: The baby.

The scene between Alex and Claire was heartbreaking, as was Bill Brown's gorgeous musical score. The composer has done such a brilliant job with the music this season. Brown really has helped define the series through his soundscapes. If (or when) the show is renewed, I hope Brown will be back as well. He was the one truly important ingredient missing last season.

Wasn't it great that Gates figured out what poison Arika used and found the cure? Foxglove FTW! I thought that was a nice twist, and was impressed Gates didn't betray Claire. How will Arika escape her execution? The red-headed lady perhaps? Her father's death was a defining moment and the plane's name tied things together nicely.

Noma questioning her place in the world again was troubling. "I don't have wings. I don't have Alex. What do I have?" she asked Michael. Will honor be enough though? I still have a very bad feeling we're going to lose Nomes.

What did you think of "The Seed of Evil"? The mystery man returned to Mallory, but who is he? Were the big reunions what you were expecting? How will Arika escape her execution? You're up guys, please share your thoughts in the comments below.
