The Vampire Diaries: When Should It End?
Matt Richenthal at .The CW just moved The Vampire Diaries to Friday nights.
The show just aired an that felt desperate and dated, copying a trope used in Groundhog Day, Edge of Tomorrow and many other films and movies:
A character repeats the same day over and over and over until he or she arrives at some realization about himself or herself.
Not exactly an original concept, and not exactly a shocking outcome either.
Was anyone surprised that Damon actually feels guilty over his mom's death? He's been using humor and anger as a coping mechanism ever since we met him.
All of this is just a preamble to the following question:
Should The CW cancel this show after The Vampire Diaries Season 7?
We're certainly not the first site to pose this question. It's been floated ever since Nina Dobrev announced she was leaving the series.
But now we really do wonder whether there's any more story left to tell.
As many of our loyal readers know, we love The Vampire Diaries. We adore The Vampire Diaries. We ran a site called The Vampire Diaries Insider prior to folding it into TV Fanatic.
Nothing would make us happier than seeing The Vampire Diaries return to its glory days of drama, shock and suspense.
But nothing would make us sadder than seeing this beloved show limp to its finish line.
So, we once again ask, should The CW announce this is the final season and give Julie Plec and company plenty of notice, in order to pen the ending this series deserves?
