Sara Ramirez Confirms Grey's Anatomy Exit

After ten seasons on the ABC's Grey's Anatomy, Sara Ramirez has decided to take a bit of a break.
Although Grey's Anatomy Season 12 Episode 24 didn't make it clear, Callie Torres will no longer be an active character on the show when it returns in the fall.
After a divisive custody battle leading into the finale, Callie lost custody of the daughter she shared with Arizona.
This prompted Callie to consider following her current partner to New York.
At that time, Arizona surprised her with warm wishes, plane tickets and shared custody, as Sophia deserved two happy moms.
Ramirez released a statement about her future with the show and Shonda Rhimes productions..
“I’m deeply grateful to have spent the last 10 years with my family at Grey’s Anatomy and ABC, but for now I’m taking some welcome time off.”
“Shonda’s been so incredible to work for, and we will definitely continue our conversations!"
"I send my love to Ellen [Pompeo], the rest of the cast and crew, and I look forward to always being a part of the Shondaland family!“
Shonda Rhimes has also released a statement:
“Dr. Callie Torres came into our lives dancing it out in her underwear almost a decade ago, and I could not be happier or more proud of her journey."
"Sara Ramirez’s performance inspired me as well as millions of fans each week."
"We wish her the best on her well-deserved time off."
"I will miss Callie tremendously but am excited for what the future holds for Sara. She will always have a home at Shondaland.”
Whether that means we will someday see Callie reunited with her friends at Sloan Grey, or if she might show up in some other Shondaland property, only time will tell.
This is the third major player on Grey's to leave the series in as many years.
Last year saw the departure of Patrick Dempsey's McDreamy and the year previous we said goodbye to Sandra Oh's Cristina Yang.
