The Gifted Season 1 Episode 2 Review: rX

The Strucker family have to get used to their new complicated lives faster than expected in the second chapter of The Gifted.

When a pilot that both starts and ends in a big way you have to make sure that the following episodes feel just as big. Fortunately The Gifted Season 1 Episode 2 is an impressive follow-up to the premiere.

Behold The Green Hair - The Gifted Season 1 Episode 2

The flashback to the incident at the bowling alley didn't make sense at first. It only clicked when we saw that Jace had brought Reed's mother in for questioning that it all made sense.

I did also enjoy it mostly from Lauren's perspective. You begin to understand why she felt so afraid of her dad knowing about her powers.

Something that didn't come off as clear was why Blink's powers were going crazy. It felt odd that it was explained as her merely being exhausted.

It made sense why she began to open random portals when she went into shock. But what is exactly that caused her body to go into shock?

Lauren In Action - The Gifted Season 1 Episode 2

Maybe it was explained when Caitlin was talking in medical terms. It just didn't come off in a clear way what was wrong with Blink.

One of the highlights of the episode was catching up with Polaris. It was a nice twist to see that she actually had her famous green hair this whole time.

What didn't sit well with me was the inmate assaulting her while knowing that Polaris was pregnant. She only recently learned that she is pregnant, so how did the word go around so fast?

It just felt extremely dark to show a young woman be hurt like that. Do we even know if she's out of her teenage years? I'm no doctor, so I don't know what the health risks are for such a young embryo, but it can't be healthy.

Is Someone Hurt - The Gifted Season 1 Episode 2

It was without a doubt a satisfying moment when Polaris managed to use her powers to throw a table at the inmate. I want Polaris out of that facility sooner rather than later.

I do expect her at some point to be able to turn her situation around with the help of other mutants. Polaris feels like she was born to lead anyway which makes sense given who her father is.

Caitlin got to shine quite a lot in this episode, reminding us that Amy Acker kicks butt in every role she plays. Her adventure with Eclipse was the strongest plot as they both had to learn to work with each other.

Learning there was a major incident on July 15 offered some backstory on Jace. You can tell it is an event that is supposed to feel like 9/11 hence why mutants are hated now.

Where Is Reed - The Gifted Season 1 Episode 2

I expect The Gifted Season 1 to reveal quickly what that event was and how it shaped the world they live in now. It will be a letdown if we're made to wait for answers about the event.

The ending of this episode was what I feared was going to happen with Reed agreeing to give Jace the underground. I get that he is doing it for his family's safety, but I was hoping he wouldn't go down that road.

Maybe he is planning on tricking the Sentinel Services once he is with the mutants again. Only time will tell what is going on in Reed's mind right now.

We were introduced to another Marvel character, Roderick Campbell, who is better known as Ahab in the comics. The search he was doing for two mutant siblings in May 1962 got me extremely intrigued.

Screaming Andy - The Gifted Season 1 Episode 2

Could they be hinting at some more Marvel mutants coming to The Gifted? What do you think; will Roderick be a foe or an ally?

I was overall very happy with how the second episode turned out. It was a solid follow-up to The Gifted Season 1 Episode 1 which isn't always easy for a new show.

We got more backstory, but not too much nor too little. The only part that was too much was the decision to feature a young pregnant woman being attacked right in the abdomen.

The Gifted continues to be one of the hottest new must-watch dramas of the season. It's not just as a solid comic book drama but a great television show in general.

Now it is your turn to let us know what you thought of The Gifted Season 1 Episode 2. What do you think the "July 15th" incident was?

Do you hope to see Polaris out of prison as soon as possible? Did Blink's powers get way too freaky?
