Showtime knows a gem when it finds one.
The premium cabler confirmed on Wednesday that it is enamored with the show and that it will be returning for another season.
“From its first episode, the refreshingly honest point of view of SMILF broke through with audiences, the press and on social media,” Gary Levine, President of Programming at Showtime, said in a statement.
“Frankie Shaw is a creative force to be reckoned with and we love having her on Showtime. Her show is funny and forthright, pointed and poignant, irreverent and relevant, all at once. We can’t wait to see where Frankie takes SMILF next season.”
The series follows the life of Bridgette Bird as she tries to navigate her life as a single mother while trying to find a way to provide for her son and live a fulfilled life before it's too late.
The series stars Frankie Shaw, Rosie O'Donnell, Miguel Gomez and Samara Weaving and is based on a short film of the same name which was a hit with viewers.
SMILF debuted earlier this month and has been a reliable ratings performer. It is currently averaging 0.6 million viewers and a 0.2 rating among adults 18-49.
Showtime shows notoriously rise considerably when delayed viewing is factored in.
SMILF Season 1 is scheduled to conclude on December 31, but Showtime will make it available on December 29 for fans who just cannot wait for New Year's Eve to see how it ends.
