Days of Our Lives Round Table: Why Does Lani Keep Lying?

at .  Updated at .

Salemites pointed fingers at one another about who killed André, John poisoned Steve, Lani continued to lie about the baby, and Will moved in across the hall from Paul on Days of Our Lives.

Our TV Fanatics Jack Ori and Christine Orlando are joined by Wendylou and Trey from MyHourglass a Days of Our Lives fan forum to debate if there’s an upside to André’s death, if Will and Paul are a train wreck waiting to happen, and why Lani just keeps on lying.

Has anything good come out of André’s death?

Wendylou: Not really. Maybe Gabi will be able to get her job back eventually now that he's gone.

Jack: Not really. I guess seeing Kate be emotional and Roman having a storyline are good things, but I'm not into this murder mystery at all.

If it's going to be more people running around accusing each other while the Salem PD does nothing useful I could do without it.

Trey: I think the whole thing is intriguing, and really like how the actors that worked with him have really showed off their range. Kate is knocking it out of the park! I like a good old fashioned mystery! I will miss André!

Christine: I do like how some of the characters are reacting to it. I liked Gabi turning the tables on Abigail by accusing her of murder too. That was a bit of fun.

I like that Roman is in the thick of things and asking John to help investigate the letter in Anna’s purse. And I enjoyed Kate and Chad’s closeness.

Really, the only boring part was the Salem PD’s investigation. They are dry as toast.

André Is Murdered - Days of Our Lives

Who do you think sent Anna that letter?

Wendylou: There's so many possibilities. Someone who wanted to at least make her look guilty. The way John was going on about giving the letter to the police it made me wonder if he has something to do with all of this.

Jack: Probably Vivian, since she seems to be the newest troublemaker who sends random letters to people. Other than that I have no idea.

Trey: I'm betting Vivian. She knows how to rile people up without getting her hands dirty. Or maybe Kristen DiMera from afar. It's wishful thinking on my part to have Kristen come back and create more chaos in Salem.

Christine: My best guest is Vivian, although John has been acting pretty strangely of late.

Competing with an Urn - Days of Our Lives

Why is John poisoning Steve?

Wendylou: I feel like someone is putting him up to it, I just don't know who. It could be Vivian or maybe...heaven forbid, something to do with Yo Ling since they brought him up again recently.

It does seem like he has some awareness and conflict over it so it's a kind of confusing.

Jack: I have no idea on this one either. John said he always protects those he cares about so he likely is protecting Steve in some weird way or else his family has been threatened.

Trey: I have no clue! It's a head scratcher. Unless he's under mind control or being blackmailed, and even then. He's not really showing remorse. I hope Steve figures it out fast though since he's my favorite.

Christine: I wish I knew! I love the friendship between these two so I hate that this is happening. I can’t imagine what reason he has, but I hope it’s a good one, and that Steve can forgive him once it comes out.

Steve Worries About His Eye Sight - Days of Our Lives

Why is Lani continuing this lie, and how do you think the truth about the baby’s paternity will come out?

Wendylou: Because she's a selfish twit. She's made up this ridiculous story that she can't be honest because JJ is too weak to handle the truth, which is absurd. He could have handled it much better if she'd been honest from the beginning.

Now, the truth will come out some day and it will be much more painful for everyone else all because Lani is playing a martyr.

Jack: Lani is continuing this lie because she's selfish and wants to hold onto JJ even though she doesn't love him. She just doesn't want to be alone and he has been a target for her abuse for the last year or so.

In her dream she was afraid of JJ realizing that she thinks he's a loser and that's exactly what she thinks -- that he's weak and stupid and can be manipulated easily into believing he is the father of this baby.

I'm sure the truth will come out months from now when JJ has made a lifetime commitment to her and then the baby gets sick or there's a complication with the pregnancy.

Trey: I think Lani is scared, and will ride this out as long as she can. It's only a matter of time, but I think she's in denial.

Christine: Because Lani is weak and selfish and short sighted. She keeps insisting she doesn’t want to hurt anyone but she’s hurting everyone!

I really hope that Valerie figures it out soon and finds a way to bring the truth to light because what Lani is doing to JJ is just cruel.

A Major Lie - Days of Our Lives

Are Paul and Will a huge mistake, or a great couple in the making?

Wendylou: I don't know if they're a great couple in the making, but they could be. I like both Will and Paul much more than I like Sonny. Will is kind of cute around Paul. I can't stand to watch the way Sonny pressures him all the time.

Jack: I used to be interested in Paul and Will but now I think they're a huge mistake. Will is obsessed with Paul and it's kind of creepy.

Trey: Paul and Will are a train wreck ready to happen. Paul is ready for a long term commitment and is solid in who he is. Will is just learning who he is and coming out of the closet (again). They're in two different points of life.

Christine: I like seeing these two as just friends because, as Trey pointed out, Will is still trying to figure out who he is. I think they could make a really cute couple but the timing is all wrong.

Will Moves In - Days of Our Lives

What, if anything, disappointed you this week in Salem?

Wendylou: Too much air time for one of my least favorite characters, Lani. I'm also disappointed that she continues to spread this lie to more and more people who will all be hurt when the truth comes out. She sucks.

Also, there was Eli's ignorance of how a baby is made and that it just takes one time.

I also really hated Steve pulling the cliched I'm-too-macho-to-admit-I-need-a-doctor routine. If his sight is as bad as they were showing it on screen he's practically blind. I don't know how he can function. He's in his fifties or sixties and married to a doctor. He should be mature enough to admit he's not well.

Jack: That the Lani story is written as if she is a good person who is just misguided when what she's doing is cruel and quite frankly evil.

I also am not very interested in this murder mystery. Also, how come Kayla has not thought of calling Stephanie to tell her about her concerns about her father's health?

Trey: I'm disappointed in Brady and Sonny. Their argument and Brady's false confessions were unwatchable.

I'm also really disappointed in John poisoning Steve and getting away with it.

Christine: Eric insinuating that Jennifer spent the night with the doctor. I expected more class from Eric.

Eli acting like not using protection was no big deal and that having sex one time couldn’t produce a child. He’s a grown man! Tell me he’s not that much of an idiot.

Finally, Lani letting JJ and his family care about this baby that isn’t his. She’s letting JJ dream of a family that’s not going to happen.

Brady and Eve - Days of Our Lives

What was your favorite quote, scene or storyline on this week’s Days of Our Lives?

Wendylou: I can't really remember many highlights to be honest but oddly one of the scenes I really liked was when Hope was so supportive and encouraging to Lani about her pregnancy. It just seemed very sweet and real.

Jack: I love all things Steve and Kayla despite wishing that John was not involved in poisoning Steve.

I also liked Eli stepping up once he realized he might be a father and reminding Lani that he grew up without knowing his real dad in this Days of Our Lives quote...

Eli: I'm first getting to know Gabi. I don't know if she could handle something like this.
Lani: What woman could?
Eli: And I don't want to cause trouble for you and JJ either. But as you know, I grew up without knowing my dad and now I'll never get that chance. So if this is my baby, I don't want my kid growing up going through the same thing.

Trey: I love Kate's turmoil dealing with André's death and some of the backstory behind their relationship unfolding has been interesting to watch. I also liked Will moving into Paul's apartment. This could get sticky!

Christine: I did think that Paul and Will were cute as they bonded over music. I also cheered when Will asked if Paul was going to go back to Sonny and he said he wasn’t willing to be anyone’s second choice. Good for him!

And I liked Gabi striking back at Abigail for accusing her of murder. I like how their friendship can take a few hits but still never really wavers.
