Legion: FX Series Ending After Three Seasons!

at .

Legion is coming to a premature end.

FX revealed during its turn at the Television Critics Association winter press tour that the low-rated Marvel TV drama wrap with its forthcoming third season.

FX boss John Landgraf maintains that the show has not been “canceled,” claiming that it was always planned to span three seasons.

“Noah Hawley had always considered Legion to be a three-season show,” FX CEO John Landgraf told reporters, “and he has confirmed that he’s going to stick with his plan. This will be the final season.”

In addition, it was also revealed that that Season 3 of Legion will debut in June.

It's hard to imagine FX letting go of the show if it did not freefall in the ratings. Legion Season 2 averaged a mere 430,000 viewers and a 0.19 rating in the demo in live + same day results.

The show was down almost 60 percent in the demo vs. Legion Season 1. As such, was somewhat surprising that it even secured a renewal for a third season.

Marvel is known for wheeling and dealing to keep its shows on the air, so that could be attributed to the renewal.

“Legion has redefined the superhero drama and exceeded all expectations as the intensity and revelation build through the second season,” FX co-President of Original Programming for FX Networks and FX Productions Eric Schrier said last summer when the renewal was announced.

“We are incredibly proud of Noah Hawley’s achievement and are honored to continue the series as it pushes the boundaries of conventional television storytelling."

"We are also grateful for the contributions of our executive producers, John Cameron, Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, and Jeph Loeb with Marvel Television, as well as our outstanding cast and crew of this groundbreaking show.”

Legion follows a man who has struggled with mental illness ever since he as a teenager. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years.

But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real.

Something new needs to happen - soon.

David

David: It's just Thursday. Like the 260th Thursday as a passenger on the cruise ship "Mental Health." On the plus side I've mastered eating with a spoon.
Amy: You're getting better. The voices - you're not seeing things that aren't there?
