Alicia and her mother went on a cooking show with the help of some wine, an FBI sting operation invaded bond court and a new and shocking couple emerged on The Good Wife Season 7 Episode 3.
Our TV Fanatics Carissa Pavlica, Elizabeth Harlow and Christine Orlando rate Alicia and Veronica’s cooking show appearance, weigh in on Howard and Jackie and share their favorite moments from “Cooked.”
Rate Alicia and Veronica’s cooking show appearance on a scale of 1 (boring) to 10 (amazing).
Carissa: As I actually like cooking shows, I'd have to give it a 6. I would have enjoyed the drama, but been upset I didn't get any cooking tips.
Elizabeth: Ten. I like cooking shows too, Carissa, but the whole premise of this fake show was…lacking. I would only watch that program to it blow up like that. Juliana Marguiles and Stockard Channing killed it.
Christine: I’ll give it a 5. I liked the premise, but I expected more from their half drunken argument on camera. I think it could have been ever more over the top.
Would the judge have taken the bribe if Eli hadn’t warned him?
Carissa: Absolutely. That was my least favorite thing Eli has done of late. I don't like him working against Alicia in any way. He jeopardized her career. He no longer has my vote of confidence.
Elizabeth: Based on his inappropriate judicial retribution in the promo for next week, I lean towards yes. As for Eli's deception, I think it's going to end up working for Alicia in the end. It's in his best interest for both of the Florrick's to be successful, and I think he's setting up a scenario where he saves Alicia from being forced into something highly unethical and probably illegal.
Christine: Probably, but Eli telling him about the sting operation didn’t surprise me at all. Eli’s power comes from inside information and having people owe him. Hopefully this latest chip in his pocket will end up helping Alicia.
What do you think of Howard and Jackie as a couple?
Carissa: They're a match made in heaven. She's a monster and he's a pig. Honestly, I wouldn't wish either of them on anyone but each other, even after hearing her sad sack story about her mother stuffing her mouth with garlic when she laughed. I love garlic. Bring it on.
Elizabeth: More like a match made in hell, at least for Alicia. I shouted so loud I scared my dog when I realized where it was going, and I'm ashamed I never thought of pairing them together. I want to see what happens when the WASP-iest woman on the planet hosts a Seder.
Christine: I’m speechless. They’re definitely a match, although I’m not sure whether it’s made in heaven or hell. Either way, I have no doubt these two as a couple will be entertaining. Perhaps horrifying, but certainly entertaining.
Diane and Alicia are at odds yet again. Would you like to see them make up?
Carissa: I don't even care at this point. I'm starting to get the impression (however ridiculous it is) that Juliana Marguilese really doesn't play well with others. She can't have a single relationship that lasts on the show. It's annoying.
Elizabeth: You'd think all these brilliant lawyers would have figured out a way to communicate without breaking privilege (that seemed shaky anyway since Howard never paid her). I agree that it's annoying that Alicia can't maintain a friendship, but since we haven't heard about JM having problems on other projects, I'd say it's just an attempt by the writers to make the character more sympathetic by isolating her and it’s seriously backfiring.
Christine: Enough already. I always enjoyed Alicia and Diane as colleagues. They don’t have to do Girl’s Night Out, but how about keeping things civil for more than an episode. The constant bickering has gotten dull.
Was there anything in “Cooked” that disappointed you?
Carissa: Other than what I already noted about Eli, that Alicia didn't realize sooner that her client was an undercover FBI agent. As soon as Grace (with whom I'm still having a seasonal love affair) showed her the photo, I sussed that out.
Elizabeth: I guess the whole FBI dying setup was disappointing–not the story just the execution. The NSA phone tapping was so well done last year. The problem with setting the bar so high is you have to keep making those jumps.
Christine: Where was Alicia’s new investigator Jason Krause? He has incredible chemistry with Alicia (which is probably the death knell for the character), and I was looking forward to seeing more.
What was your favorite quote or scene from this episode?
Carissa: I'm not sure if I'll get this exactly right, but when Eli said, "It's too bad I don't have another chair in here. We could have a prayer circle." I laughed out loud at that one.
Elizabeth: For me, it's a tie between the cooking show and the Howard/Jackie pairing. Cooking show probably wins because of Stockard Channing.
Christine: Carissa, I laughed at the same line. That was really funny. Overall, I loved Eli maneuvering behind the scenes. From the cooking show to the judge, Eli is a man on a mission, and he’s always fun to watch.
