Jackson Avery returns, and he certainly clashes with Meredith.

Cass and Teddy are rolling around in the sack together, having morning sex before Teddy must start her shift. And Cass wonders about how it’ll be in the hospital with Owen there and them arriving together.
Owen wheels Link out as he’s discharged, and it’s awkward when Teddy and Cass arrive together.
Bailey is bummed that she has to tell her patient that she has stage four cancer.
Simone and Owen are treating a kid who hurt himself on a horse he fell off of, and realize later that it was a fake horse with a stick, not a real one.
Everyone is excited about Jackson being back to perform a big surgery. And he’s reuniting with Ben on it, so the return of the Plastics Posse 2.0. The new plastics fellow is also thrilled and excited about this, as she idealized Jackson and wanted to work for him. However, when he hears she is a plastic fellow, he assigns her to another case.
Kwan seems to be amused by this, and the two of them still don’t seem to get along at all.
Mer catches up with Jackson to discuss Koracick publishing her work on the mice, and she brings up that Koracick only studied male mice, which is what she has been trying to avoid, as the results for females and males are vastly different.
But Jackson points out that Mer has seemingly abandoned her research in an unused lab somewhere and has been at Grey Sloan all summer, so he’s not going to stop or prevent anything.
The other boy has collapsed, and he has issues. He requires an X-ray, according to Link, and Link is on the other kid’s side, but Owen keeps benching Link and saying he’s not allowed to help.
Bailey makes Lucas stick with Katie for the day so he can research how to help with her cancer. But Katie doesn’t seem too impressed by Lucas and wants all of his information and background if he’s going to keep working on her case.
Simone seems offended that Jules doesn’t want to move in with her and Blue. And she can’t figure out why that is.
Teddy notices Nora in an examination roo,m and she reports saying she’s having chest pains.
Ben finds a hernia in the patient that Jackson is supposed to perform surgery on, and Jackson has to begrudingly enlist Meredith’s help and convince her to assist him in removing it because she’s still at the hospital. However, she’s still angry with him.
However, when the patient expresses a desire to have both surgeries simultaneously, Jackson refuses, and Meredith, on the other hand, insists, putting them at odds once again.
That continues when they’re in surgery together and constantly bickering, and Mer makes her point about how healthcare for women is entirely different.
When she leaves, the Plastics fellow comes in, still interested in watching Jackson work, but he’s dismissive of her. Kwan notices and pretends to be sick so she can scrub in and take his place.
Cass is roaming the halls and stops in while Teddy is waiting for Nora’s scans. She tries to be supportive, but Teddy, who is trying to be professional and focused, comes across as rude.
While doing his research, Katie comes in to ask Lucas questions about issues she has with her examination. He examines her, and he notices she has a blood clot, and they have to whisk her away.
The others are making fun of the kid they’re operating on for the hobby horse he was playing with that caused his hospital visit in the first place, but Owen snaps at everyone and tells them to respect the patient.
After the surgery, Link tries to check in with Owen, but he lashes out at Link, claiming he can’t understand what it’s like for him to lose his marriage, wife, and best friend.
Meanwhile, Teddy also bonds with Nora, tells her about the divorce, and how she’s struggling.
Lucas gets Katie settled in after treating her for the blood clotting, and she confides in him about wanting to fight her cancer, not telling her loved ones, and her desire to try new things. She breaks down crying and hugs him, and he comforts her.
The breast reconstruction surgery takes place, and the plastic fellow has great suggestions and impresses Jackson when things get tense in the OR. He welcomes her into the Plastics Posse.
Jackson goes to talk to Mer and apologizes to her.
After speaking with Bailey, Ben realizes that he may want to stay a resident for three years to pursue plastics again, as he’s passionate about it.
Lucas tells Bailey that’s fine with missing significant time on other big cases; he wants to stick it out with the Katie one.
Owen goes to apologize to Link, and he thanks him for being the only one genuinely checking up on him. Meanwhile, Teddy confides in Cass and tells her how she has always had her life in order, and now she’s without that control. But Cass is committed to what they have.
Nora sees Owen outside, and they go out to dinner.
Jules tells Simone that the issue she is having with possibly moving in is that she’s been a terrible roommate before, doesn’t have too many friends, so she’s afraid of screwing up their friendship if she moves in with her.
The Plastics fellow finds Kwan in the microlab and then indirectly gives him tips on how to perform his task. It seems they’re setting him up for his next Grey’s romance with her.
Mer tells Richard that she wants to return to Boston, as she has figured out that estrogen is preventing the female mice from responding to the antibiotics properly. So she’s off to Boston again for the forseeable time.
