It’s not often I’ll say someone is wrong for how they feel, but Hen was completely out of line during 9-1-1 Season 9 Episode 8.
As Athena decided to get everyone from the 118 in to talk about the current situation between Hen and Chimney, things turned to how Hen kept her medical condition to herself.
She was selfish and reckless, but she was able to halt those bringing that up by pointing out that nobody checked in on her after Bobby died. That simply wasn’t true.
Buck Checked On Everyone
Let’s go back to 9-1-1 Season 8 for a minute and look at the episode after Bobby’s death. In fact, for a few episodes after Bobby’s death, Buck was there checking in on everyone.
He knew that the loss of Bobby would hit everyone hard, but nobody seemed to show it, and that made Buck nervous.
As he tried to figure out what Bobby meant with his final words, Buck put it upon himself to make sure that Eddie, Chimney, and even Hen were doing okay.
He didn’t hold back, and it ended with everyone making fun of him and his steps.
In fact, when Buck pointed out that nobody was checking in on him, others, like Eddie, chastised him for making it about himself. Eddie pointed out that everyone else was suffering from Bobby’s loss, too.
Isn’t it a bit hypocritical of Hen to then say that nobody checked in on her, and for nobody to point out that everyone was hurting after Bobby’s loss?
Buck didn’t stand up for himself at the dinner table during 9-1-1, and that was probably the right thing for him to do at the time.
After all, Buck will remember how Eddie reacted when he looked for someone to care about him, so telling Hen the exact same thing that Eddie had told him would look mean.
It’s not even as if Buck is like that.
He wants people to feel cared for and respected, which is why he checked in on everyone after Bobby’s death in the first place.
There was no way he was going to say anything at the dinner table, but he needed someone to back him up on this.
Hen Hid Her Medical Condition
Okay, so Hen’s issue wasn’t just with people not checking in on her after Bobby. It was also about people not checking in on her about her medical condition.
Yet, this was a medical condition that she hid.
For months, I will add.
We know that the medical condition started during 9-1-1 Season 9 Episode 6, and then the show went on its winter break.
When 9-1-1 Season 9 returned from its winter break, we learned that around three months had passed.
It’s possible the show was expected to go off the air in November or December, not returning until March, which is most common.
So, for three months, Hen hid her illness from everyone, including her wife, and then got angry that people didn’t check in on her?
At what point did she give them a chance to check in on her? She didn’t even tell her wife, who she lived with!
If Karen couldn’t see that there was a problem, then it would suggest that Hen did a damn good job of hiding her illness. There is no way that the rest of the 118 would know something was wrong.
Even Athena didn’t know until Hen said something to her, and Hen made it clear that she was hiding things until she got some concrete answers.
Hen’s selfish behavior could have gotten multiple people killed — both in terms of victims and her own friends — and she deserved to be fired for that.
Emotion Overtakes Facts Now
The problem now is that people will feel sorry for her, because that’s what people do.
It negates everything that she risked, and it really shouldn’t.
Hen should have to live with the consequences of her actions, and she owes Buck an apology for not recognizing that he was doing something she claimed nobody did.
