Special Agent Timothy McGee, a.k.a. "Probie," is part of the NCIS team led by Special Agent Gibbs.
McGee gained his field agent status when he was transferred to Washington from Norfolk. In addition to responding to crime scenes and conducting investigations, McGee also serves as Gibbs' computer consultant.
Tim grew up in Bethesda, Md., and on the Naval Base in Alameda, Calif., as his father was a naval officer.
Before joining NCIS, he received a degree in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and a masters degree in Computer Forensics from MIT.
As the junior field agent of the team, McGee is often subject to ridicule from colleagues Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David, and, to some extent, even Gibbs.
McGee's many notable nicknames come from DiNozzo, either "Probie," due to his junior status on the team, or "McGeek," alluding to his intelligence.
DiNozzo uses multiple variations on his name make fun of McGee, some of which are clever and even complimentary (McGPS, McProof), others harmlessly mocking (McLawyer, McGiggle, McNerd).
McGee: Rule number 70 - keep digging till you hit bottom.
Abby: McGee! There is no rule 70.
McGee: Well, I--
Abby: You just made up a rule. This McGibbs thing has really gone to your head. I don't even recognize you right now.
Tony: Fruit of the month might be good. Maybe a foot massage.
McGee: Tony, I never pegged you as a catalog shopper.
Tony: Well, that's because I'm not, tiny Tim, but desperate times call for desperate measures. I took these from my neighbor's doorstep.
Ziva: You stole them?
Tony: The doorstep is considered a common area.
