Meemaw: She's not doing fine, but you don't know that because you're spending all your time praying.
Mary: I'm praying for them.
Meemaw: Mary, they don't need your prayers. They need their mother.
I was not always as emotionally intelligent as I am today. For example, when my father died, I was flummoxed by all the ways people expressed grief.
Adult Sheldon (VO)
Missy: What are you doing?
Sheldon: Thinking about Star Trek.
Missy: What is wrong with you? Our dad just died!
Billy: You and I have something in common now.
Missy: What's that?
Billy: Our dads are both gone.
Missy: Your dad's in New Jersey.
Billy: Yeah, but he's not comin' back. Wanna hug?

Sheldon: Eventually I realized there was a better way to deal with grief: avoid it altogether.
Mary: Where's Dale?
Meemaw: He was wandering around afraid to sit anywhere so I sent him home.
I wasn't always the biggest supporter of George and Mary as an item. In fact, whenever they'd get together I'd invite that slut Janice. Hey Janice, thank you for coming. But it turned out George only had eyes for Mary. And over the years he sure did earn my respect.

Adult Sheldon (VO): I focused for a long time on my father's shortcomings. But now that I'm his age with children of my own, I understand he was just a person doing the best he could. I couldn't say it at his funeral, but I can say it now: I loved my father and I will miss him forever.
Mary: Hurry up. We gotta get ready to go to church.
Sheldon: We already went Wednesday and Thursday. Isn't that enough?
