[Hiram turns around slowly]

[Archie leave and Hiram sits at his desk]

Hermione: The St. Clairs had a car accident. They were run off the road. Nick...he will recover. It will take several months.

[Hiram moves his Chess piece]
Hiram: Checkmate.
Hiram: You know the one thing about this apartment is that sound carries. You know my study, when the door closed, I could hear you and Veronica in the dining room as if we were all together. If you want to burn down your relationship with our daughter, that’s your business. Don’t ever try to poison her against me. Clear?
Hermione: Of course.

[Veronica hands Hermione a letter]

Veronica: I don't understand.
Hermione: I needed you to testify on your father's behalf, so I wrote this letter. Threatening myself, not your father.
