Recap

Sheriff Brady delivers to Dick Brewer a writ ordering that Tunstall's store be closed.

Brewer's appointment as a deputy also has been rescinded.

He and McSwain rush to Tunstall's home.

When told of the impending raid, Tunstall asked for advice from his lieutenants.

Brewer demurs but Billy insists on defending the ranch.

Tunstall's forces set up a perimeter around the property.

Billy gives Tunstall some perspective about their situation.

Tunstall doesn't want any of his people killed in a showdown. So he opts to move his horses to another farm he'd recently bought.

Billy appoints a couple of men to check back in case the sheriff's posse decide to follow.

Tunstall tells Billy that, unlike Billy's father, he won't let him down.

Despite some dissension, Billy convinces the posse to chase after Tunstall's crew without consulting with Brady.

After Billy's reserve duo reports no pursuit, Tunstall's forces stop to hunt birds for lunch. Tunstall is left alone to watch the horses.

This allows the posse to catch up with the hunting party, which comes under fire. Billy shoots one, causes the posse to retreat.

But Jesse leads them after Tunstall and the horses. The posse riddles Tunstall with bullets.

Jesse's report to Brady paints Tunstall's killing as self-defense.

Billy swears vengeance for Tunstall's murder.

Major Murphy's army celebrates Tunstall's death.

Walz and Jesse make each other's acquaintance.

Despite the death of Tunstall, Catron wants The House to put up all its assets as collateral for a $25,000 loan due in three months.

Walz advises Riley to head off the upcoming war.

Murphy informs Riley that he's the only one Catron will listen to.

At Tunstall's funeral, Billy recalls when his father was laid to rest.

McSwain argues for a legal solution to their situation. But Billy says the court system is corrupt in the state.

Instead, they have formed a fighting force dubbed The Regulators, with Billy as their leader.

Billy rides to Dulcinea's hacienda, where he meets her brother.

Dulcinea violently disagrees with his plan to take the law into his own hands and become an outlaw again, sending him away.

Under pressure from Billy, John Beckwith gives up the names of those who shot Tunstall but not Jesse.

Billy wants to wait to see if McSwain has any success in the courts then decide their next move.

McSwain got the store returned to its original owner but all the criminal charges remain in place.

So Billy decides to steal back Tunstall's horses which are being kept by Morin, one of Tunstall's killers.

Morin and Baker ride away, with Billy's gang in hot pursuit.

Brewer gets them to surrender but Billy shoots them anyway.
