He was hoping a séance would allow them to channel the little girl and get more information. Unfortunately, another mage hijacks the séance killing Fennel in the process. Via flashback, we learn how Chas became what he is. John was drunk and in a hurry to get laid, he cast some ridiculous looking protection spell over Chas. Later that night when a metal band's pyrotechnics went haywire and the venue burnt to the ground, Chas managed to walk away. Yes, he died in that fire, but he also collected all the other souls that died as well. Zed has a vision which leads the trio to a cloaked warehouse. Inside, Felix Faust reveals himself as the villain. What does Faust want? Simple, John must defeat a soul sucking demon draining Faust's supply and send it back to hell. John manages to destroy the creature, but Faust wanted it sent back to hell so he changes his deal. Ultimately Chas takes matter into his own hands and stops listening to John for the sake of his little girl. He offers Faust a trade, all his souls in exchange for Geraldine's. However, the real plan was to kill the mage rendering his magic powerless. Chas proceeds to blow the two of them up saying "we both die today, but only one of us is coming back." He's only got 31 souls left now. Faust's death did indeed release all the souls he captured and Chas got his little girl back.
