Recap

In a flashback, a boy comes home to discover his father and sister shot to death by his mother. That boy grows up to become Colton Wolf, Leaphorn's jailed murder suspect. Gordo tells Joe there's an outstanding warrant on Wolf which would net him the death penalty. But Leaphorn wants to understand Wolf's motivation. Gordo gives Joe until that night to further investigate. Bern's application to the Border Patrol has been accepted. Leaphorn interrogates Wolf. He wants to know who Wolf is working for. Joe calls in private eye DeLoyd Webster, who had an appointment with Wolf. After being pressured, Webster informs Joe and Bern that Wolf hired him to find his mother, Linda Maddox. Then Webster talks to Wolf, showing him a photo of a woman who could be his mother, and tells him that he needs to give up information if he ever wants to see her again. Mary Landon attends Emma's meeting of young Indian mothers. Bern talks with D, a frequent delinquent who says he got drafted for the military. Wolf gives up the name of Carl LeBeck as the man who hired him. Navajos gather for the eclipse. Lebeck's sister says he's been dead for three years. Then Guy Atcitty identifies Wolf as Lebeck. Chee tails Rosemary Vines, who has a motel rendezvous. Wolf killed LeBeck and assumed his identity to gain access to the drilling site. Jim follows Rosemary to a gathering of The People of Darkness. B.J. Vines leads the meeting. A woman tries to leave and Chee helps her escape. Then he goes back for Rosemary. He's being hunted so he returns and finds the woman gone. Gordo comes for Wolf. Bern says goodbye to D as he's picked up. Joe gets a call that Wolf has escaped after causing an accident.
