On Doctor Who Season 11 Episode 2, The Doctor and her Companions are caught up in an intergalactic rally race which has culminated on a planet known as Desolation. The last two competitors in the race, Epzo and Angstrom, are challenged to survive the harsh terrain of Desolation to reach the site of the Ghost Monument, a landmark that only appears every thousand years. When The Doctor presses the holographic race marshall for more information, it turns out the Ghost Monument is, in fact, her T.A.R.D.I.S. In order to survive the race, they must all work together, to Epzo's disgust. They start off with a ship with a broken engine, floating on water filled with flesh-eating microbes. Once they make it across the water, they attempt to navigate old ruins filled with sniper robots, killer cloth creatures, and flammable fields of acetylene. The Doctor is sure that if they can just get to the finish line and find her T.A.R.D.I.S., she will be able to take her new friends home to safety. However, the mystery of the planet bothers her. Where did Desolation's inhabitants go? Why is the planet so incredibly hostile to life? Where did the technology that created the ruins and the intricate tunnel network come from? The answers will establish a very real threat to the universe itself.
