Recap

The show opens with a daily report of a rapidly expanding wildfire. Manny asks if they should skip going to the ball, but Sharon is adamant that they should attend.

Everyone is busy preparing for the night, hoping the ball will impress the governor enough that she doesn't close the inmate fire camp. It's supposed to be to raise money for the fire fighter's fund. Two birds, one stone.

The inmates arrive at Station 42 and talk about what could happen if the camp gets closed down.

The ball is in full swing at the station, with the guests dancing and having a good time and the inmates standing ready to serve the guests.

Throughout the ball, Bode continues to shoot longing looks at Gabriela as she parties with her fiance.

Everyone is in attendance -- except Vince -- including one unexpected guest. Fans finally get their first look at Gabriela's mom, Roberta.

Mommy dearest makes snide comments to her ex and flirts with her daughter's new beau, who extended the invite.

Gene and Bode have a touching moment, and Jake plays the protective father while showing his support for Gene's staying in contact with Uncle Bode. After last week's revelation, there is still much tension between Bode and Jake.

Luke looks more than shocked -- he looks pissed -- when he finds out that Three Rock is at the ball. Sharon intervenes as he tries to make Three Rock leave.

While Gabriela and her mom have a tense moment, the station gets a call for official fire business as the wildfire gets more out of control.

Sharon takes command of deliveries while Vince is AWOL. Gabriela goes to the house to get him since he's not answering anyone.

It's probably because he's lying unconscious on the floor. Gabriela realizes he has heart palpitations. He's in A-FIB.

Vince argues when she tries to call an ambulance. He doesn't want to lose his career. Gabriela doesn't want him to lose his life.

Luke repeatedly throws a fit that Vince isn't at the party, first when they greet the governor as she arrives and again when he notifies Sharon that Station 42 will have to help with the out-of-control Lazareth fire.

Roberta and Manny argue over Gabriela. We see her mom's true nature, but it isn't pretty. The intense emotions lead to a reunion between the estranged couple.

Eve calls out the governor to reverse the closure call for Three Rock. She mentions the petition, but the governor walks away in the middle of her speech.

Vince begs Gabriela to shock his heart back into rhythm. But she can't because of her feelings for Bode. Vince flatlines, and she has no choice.

Bode and Roberta have a heart-to-heart, and Bode puts Gabriela's mom in her place. She calls him out on still being in love with Gabriela.

The governor requests a sit-rep on the Lazareth fire. He blubbers his way through, but Sharon calls him out for being wrong.

Eve pitches to save Three Rock again. The governor busts Luke out by saying he recommended closing the inmate camp.

Bode gets a glimmer of hope as Gene asks to visit with him at Three Rock.

As the governor is leaving, Luke continues to suck up. Eve and Manny come out arguing as Manny airs the dirty laundry in front of Bode and the entire party.

Luke pushes his limits, and Manny punches him in the face. Their fight starts a fire.

Bode rushes to put out the fire on a man's arm, Vince gets a fire extinguisher to put out the fire on the drapes, and inmate Cole assists. The governor takes a photo op with the two hero inmate firefighters.

Bode makes one last-ditch effort to save the camp by giving a direct speech to the governor. Vince chimes in, and they convince the governor to make the call to get Three Rock to the fire.

Vince gets close to confessing to Sharon about his issues but chickens out at the last minute. Gabriela and Roberta have a strong reunion moment.

Roberta mentions that she talked to Bode and then tries to convince Gabs that she might be making a mistake choosing Diego over Bode.

As Three Rock heads towards the massive Lazareth fire, Eve gives them an idea of what they're going into. But the men are more worried about what they'll be coming back to when it's over.

Fire Country Season 2 Episode 8 Quotes

Gabriela: I think you're in AFib. The electricity in your heart's misfiring. I'm going to call an ambo.
Vince: Nope. No. You are not. You call this in, my career is over.
Gabriela: I don't, and your life may be over. So.

Vince: What?
Gabriela: I need more information than fine. Have you had any other symptoms besides tremors?
Vince: No. I got every test they had at the hospital. And they released me. So I don't need you to be my FitBit, 'kay?
Gabriela: That's the price of secrecy. You have to tell me everything.
