Law & Order: SVU Season 19 Episode 16 focuses on trying to get justice for a girl who is missing and presumed dead.

Haley Sadler disappears during a school trip to New York. She was last seen in the company of Vinnie, a butcher's assistant who wore a clown mask and acted creepy. Her parents want her found immediately and family and friends can't believe something this tragic happened to Haley, who is a talented pianist with a bright future ahead of her.

SVU's investigation leads them to believe Vinnie murdered Haley, but they cannot find a body. Vinnie claims to be innocent and that he was dumping rotten meat, not the body, at 2 AM, and the trash from the dumpster has already been sent out by the time SVU catches up with it, so there is no way to prove it one way or the other. Stone is reluctant to pursue this case but between Benson and a news report about Haley, he is persuaded.

In court, Stone puts on an emotional case, but Haley's teacher and her parents aren't convinced he is going to win. Then Haley's teacher disappears and SVU is shocked by what they find out when they search for him.
