Major Crimes Season 4 Episode 19 revolves around two cases: the killing of a mother and son that may be linked to gang activity and the murder of an off-duty police officer over a decade ago.

When a woman and her three-year-old son are murdered in the middle of the night, the MCU suspects gang involvement, especially after they find drugs and money in the vehicle. Recovered bullet casings match a gun that was used ten years ago to kill an off-duty cop during a robbery. A gang member turned preacher, Daniel Price, was guilty of the robbery but the DA was murdered using that same gun and Price walked after the weapon could not be recovered.

The ballistics expert wants Sykes to investigate, but the best lead is a disgraced detective, Mark Hickman, who was booted off the force for perjuring himself and planting evidence in the Reese shooting. Hickman gives Skyes some info but she can't tell her fellow detectives where she got it from.

The investigators call in Stephanie Dunn to take a look at the evidence. Dunn's husband was killed trying to protect DA Rachel Gray, so she has a personal stake and has not been disgraced like Hickman. Meanwhile, Julio brings in a pot smoking kid he saw near the crime scene and intimidates him into telling him where Tamika got drugs from. He claims they were being sold out of the church.

Price is brought in for questioning, along with his lawyer, who keeps insinuating that the cops want to violate his client's rights. He consents to a search, which leads to a surprising discovery. Meanwhile, Rusty becomes worried about his biological mother after the boyfriend who encouraged her to abandon him begins following him around. Gus helps him investigate, but it seems his bio-mom may be in serious trouble...
