Wilder sees Max with his ASL teacher and tells him not to do it for her because it won't work.

Karen asks Iggy to handle an unhoused man outside scaring of patients. Iggy talks to the man and follows him home to his penthouse and learns that he used to get electroshock therapy at the hospital when he was a child and tha'ts why he's warning people against it. Iggy promises to help hm with his schizophrenia and realizes that he man had a rash from proein shakes tha caused issues.

Max steps in for an absent doctor and helps residents. He meets Mika who is a great doctor who hand a panic attack after treating a patient. She lost her first patient and hasn't gone home since because she doesn't want to lose anyone else. Max convices her that taking care of others includes taking care of herself.

Wilder's mentor, Bev Clemons, comes to the hospial. she has liver cancer in the stage four and refuses chemo but wants to open up a deaf medical school and wants Wilder to run it. Wilder doesn't want to do it, but Clemons encourages her to for teh community and also because the hearing world doesn't appreciate her, see her, or understand her all the time, and that can get to be too much and wear her down.

Floyd makes plans to spend some time with Gabrielle but his father has tickets to an expo. He struggles with what to do.

Vanessa comes into the hospital overdosing and Lauren treats her. They get into it when she comes to and vanessa tells her that their moterh died hating Lauren because she never gave Lauren the apology letter their mother wrote to her. Vanessa has a coronary and Floyd finds it.

Lauren spends all the time with her and feels guilty and Floyd tels her that leaving was the best thing she did foher and Vanessa and she can't help her if she doesn't want it and it's not wrong to step back from her. Lauren finally listens.

Wilder tells Max about the job and he reminds her that she is a teacher because she taught all of them about their limits not hers. he told her her learned ASL because of her not for her and that he sees her.

She tells Bev that she's declining and that the people there do see her. And Bev encourages her to go talk to the person who sees her.

Wilder goes searching for Max and catches him as he's in the hospital lobby. She tells him that she's staying and that she wants to go home with him. Their happiiness is interrpted when Max sees on tv that Helen is in NYC for an oncology conference.
