Jess is excited about possibly being on a jury, but is quickly turned off when she learns she's up for a promotion at work. She tries to get advice from her friends on how to get out of it, but they aren't able to provide her with any good advice. Jess attempts to make up a story to get out of it, but feels guilty when she realizes the man she met outside the court room is a lawyer on the case. Jess decides to stay put and is surprised to learn the case is going to take a month and she'll have to be sequestered because it's a high profile case. Meanwhile, Nick confronts Cece about her creating a mess in the loft and the two begin to fight. Jess tells Cece she just needs to sign the loft contract Nick created to get him to stop. Cece agrees to sign the papers, but Nick tells her she doesn't have to. The both of them realize their fighting is stupid and they were actually jealous of each other because of their respective relationship with Schmidt.
