Chapter Thirty-Seven
Recap
- Cesar is struggling with school and keeping his grades up to make graduation, so the others dedicate their time to helping him.
- The others get their acceptance letters for their colleges.
- Ruby spends a lot of time with Abuelita.
- A black SUV with red rimmed tires keeps falling Jamal, and it's freaking him out.
- Jamal has to lead the prom committee and doesn't like it very much.
- Ruby tries to figure out who he is going to prom with.
- The girls try to figure out who theyr'e going to prom with and Monse wants to go with Cesar.
- Cesar almost wants to quit trying to graduate but he wants to make Oscar proud and his niece Lydia who was just born. Monse: Oh my god, she looks so beatufiul. She looks just like Oscar. Cesar: And she's never going to meet him. Monse: NO, she's not, but she will meet her favorite uncle who is a high school graduate.
- Jamal tells Jasmine about the car that's following him and when she runs the plants ahe can't get any inormation on it. He takes off running and the truck chases him.
- Jasmine's aunt tells her that she's moving to Dallas with her son and Jasmine thinks she can't go to Berkeley and no one will be able to watch her father.
- Abuelita is in the hospital again. But she isn't ther ebecuase of her cancer.
- Abuelita talks Ruby into taking Jasmine to prom.
- Ruby does a full promposal for Jasmine, but she says no.
- Margarita wants to ask Ruby out. Ruby is the hottest ticket now.
- Monty encourages Monse to ask who she wants out to prom instead of waiting.
- Abuelita asks Jamal to get her stash of weed out of her room. When getting her drugs he finds a bunch of magazines and figures out that she was the one who sent them the leetters.
- Jamal confronts Abuelita about the magaines and she confesses. He tells her abou tthe car following him, and she assures him that it's no cuchillo's men. They smoke weed together.
- Ruby gets bombarded with gifts. Jasmine goes to talk to him. She asks him to prom and he agrees.
- MOnse goes to ask Cesar. He thanks her for helping him with school since he'll be graduating now and they hug and she kisses him. But when she asks him to prom he declines and tells her that he's taking Vero.
- When Jamal gets out of the hospital the truck is still out there.
