As a child, Cruella is kept locked up in the attic by her mother who trains Dalmations to keep the girl from escaping. But many years later, the author helps Cruella as a young woman escape and they spend a fun night dancing. Cruellla tells him that her mother murdered her father and her other two husbands. The author gives her the power to control all animals in order to escape her mother. Unfortunately Cruella's story wasn't entirely true. Turns out Cruella is the one her poisoned her father and her mother's two other husbands. Instead of turning her in, her mother kept her locked away. Cruella uses her new power to control animals to make the dogs kill her mother, then she kills the dogs and turns them into a coat. Horrified, the author writes that Cruella may never take another life. But the residents of Storybrooke don't know that when she abducts Henry and threatens to kill him if they don't kill the author. When Emma finally finds Cruella holding a gun on Henry, she has no idea that Cruella is unable to pull the trigger.
