When you watch Salem Season 2 Episode 8, you'll see just how far one woman will go to be the top witch in the town. When Cotton and Dr. Wainwright go to search for the source of the plague, they find a pit which looks to be a door to hell. The men are convinced this is what the witches have planned for the people of Salem, but they decide to keep the information between just them so they don't incite a riot. Unfortunately, Dr. Wainwright takes it upon himself to go to Mary and tell her he knows the truth about her and the crimes she has committed. Mary is convinced he wants to turn her in, but he surprises her by saying he wants in on the whole thing because he is a man of science and what she is, is a scientist. After Mary and Dr. Wainwright have an intimate night together, Increase shows up and provides Mary with the location of where Countess Marburg's soul is, it is the boat, but disappears before he's able to give her any other information. Meanwhile, after Sebastian walked in on Mary and Dr. Wainright having sex, he makes the decision to go ahead with the kidnapping of John.
