Recap

An astronaut sits in a cockpit experiencing an alarm and being told there is debris heading her way.

The Watcher brings Picard to her apartment where she establishes her name is Tallinn, not Laris, and pulls a weapon on him.

The astronaut is having difficulty countering the debris.

Picard introduces himself which catches Tallinn’s attention.

The astronaut braces for impact and the simulation ends as she is pronounced dead.

Tallinn describes her mission, to protect one individual. Picard shares that a divergence is coming that will affect the future. He hypothesizes that Tallinn or her mark are of importance to the divergence.

The astronaut retrieves a sailboat pendant and kisses it in frustration at the failed simulation. Tallinn reveals the individual she protects is Renée Picard, Picard’s ancestor and the astronaut in the simulation.

On La Sirena, the Borg queen is regenerating and realizes there is a way to communicate by tapping into the cellular signals. Mimicking Rios’s voice, she directs the ship’s computer to connect to local emergency services. She makes a frantic report that a woman is being attacked at the Picard vineyard and calls for help.

Raffi and Seven argue on how to rescue Rios. Seven uses the tricorder to emit an EMP that immobilizes the bus.

Rios realizes a rescue is in process and prepares the others. He knocks out the guard while Raffi takes care of the driver. The others are set free. Raffi thinks she sees Elnor, but it’s not him.

Picard and Tallinn discuss Renée.

Renée sits in a therapy session.

Tallinn describes Renée as a gifted individual who also struggles with depression and anxiety. She worries that Renée won’t be on the Europa mission. In Picard’s history, she was and it made a huge impact on space exploration. Tallinn shows Picard the therapy session. He realizes the therapist is sabotaging Renée’s confidence. The therapist is Q.

Dr. Adam Soong pitches a genome research project to a panel of scientists.

He returns home to his daughter, Kore. The pitch didn’t go well.

He promises Kore she’ll get to step outside one day. Kore dreams of learning to swim outside. Soong tests her blood and the system indicates a certainty that she’ll die.

The scientist panel censures Soong for his illegal experimentation. He argues he did it for the greater good. They revoke his license and his funding. He is banned from any further research. In his lab, he receives a message and a coded invitation from Q.

At Chateau Picard, a policeman investigates the report of an attack. He is lured to the spaceship. The Borg queen traps him.

Soong meets with Q. Q offers him a cure for Kore.

Tallinn questions Q’s involvement. She explains that Renée will go into pre-launch quarantine the next day. Once in quarantine, she probably won’t back out of the mission. Picard calculates they have to keep her from quitting for about 15 hours. Tallinn tells him Renée will be at a gala that night. He plans on calling in his crew.

The Borg queen calls out to Jurati, waking her up. She returns with a shotgun to the ship and finds the policeman in the queen’s tentacles. The queen tries to ransom the policeman’s life for Jurati’s surrender to her. Jurati pulls the trigger.

Soong tests Q’s cure and it looks like it’ll work on Kore. He gives it to her to inject and removes the sun blockers. It works. She is overjoyed. She immediately gets in the pool to learn to swim, asking if her mother was a good swimmer. He deflects and wants to just take the win.

As Kore starts to ask about where the cure came from, her reactions to air and sunlight suddenly return.

Jurati brings Raffi, Seven, and Rios back to La Sirena. She’s covered in blood. She shows them that she shot the Borg queen.

The policeman will survive, minus a spleen. They are moving him, still unconscious, to his car when Tallinn portals herself and Picard onto the ship.

Soong strikes a deal with Q to acquire a permanent cure for Kore. Q requires Soong remove Renée for him.

Raffi points out Tallinn’s resemblance to Laris when alone with Picard. He doesn’t want to talk about it. The team discusses how Renée is destined to find an organism while on the Europa mission she believes to be sentient. She convinces the mission commander to bring it back to Earth.

They plan their mission for the gala. There are security measures to overcome. Jurati will be sent in first to infiltrate the security system and create identities for the rest. Picard has confidence in her skills when the others are skeptical.

Once in, Jurati sets up directly under a camera where facial recognition tags her as an unknown. She’s apprehended by security and handcuffed to a chair in the surveillance office.

Jurati flashback to her confrontation with the queen. As she was dying, Jurati experienced pain. The queen revealed that she’d made herself a part of Jurati. She reaches out and injects her consciousness into Jurati.

In the surveillance room, the Borg queen sits next to Jurati – a figment of her mind – complimenting the plan on its cleverness.

Alone, but not lonely. Silence so loud. Voices carried everywhere on invisible strings.

Borg queen

Like others in my profession, I have a singular purpose. I have devoted my entire being to protecting one individual, a single string in a grand tapestry to which I'm not privy.
