Detective Danner makes a plea to Aniq -- unaware that he is hiding in the booth and can hear everything she says.

She gets a phone call from the captain, telling her that Germaine is landing in an hour, and she needs to e-mail him her report. Danner wants to follow her lead about the St. Patrick’s Day party, but the captain insists she get it done immediately -- her career and Culp’s are both on the line.

She says she knows it’s not her case (which Aniq overhears), and the captain makes her promise to send the report in an hour. Detective Culp comes in, telling her that there is no sign of Aniq, and the squad who searched Jennifer #2’s house found it empty.

Danner is determined to find out what happened at the St. Patrick’s Day party. She gathers everyone in the living room and asks who wants to tell her about the St. Patrick’s Day party. Walt offers. No one seems to know who he is.

Walt recounts his night up to this point -- nearly getting run over by Brett speeding, handing over the karaoke microphone to Zoe, pouring shots for Yasper and Xavier, and getting a ride to the afterparty in Yasper’s car.

During this, Aniq sneaks out. Danner asks Walt if he was at the St. Patrick’s Day party. He tells them all that it was at his house. Culp notices Aniq. Aniq says that he was in another room napping underneath some coats.

Danner asks Walt to come into the studio for questioning, but he wants to tell it in front of everybody.

We flashback to 2006, from Walt’s point of view. Walt’s parents are out of town. He narrates that he has told Brett to spread the word that there will be a party at his house. Yasper and Aniq walk by, and Walt walks behind them, eavesdropping.

Yasper and Aniq talk about college -- Aniq got into Stanford. Xavier (then Eugene) rolls up in a slick new car with the license plate: “XAVIER #1.” The Jennifers and Zoe notice, remarking that he’s a dork.

Yasper blames himself for saying they needed to “up their image,” which is why Eugene is trying to look cool. Yasper explains that he said Xavier --- Eugene’s middle name -- sounded more alternative. Yasper tries to figure out how to break up Ska-pe Diem without hurting Eugene. Yasper tells Aniq that Eugene thinks Aniq took his spot at Stanford.

Eugene calls after them and catches up. He says his dad got him a car as a gift for getting waitlisted at Stanford. He tells them he’s going by Xavier now.

At lunch, Aniq says to Yasper that he might tell Zoe how he feels about her. Walt overhears Brett talking to Ned, the most popular guy in school.

Ned is sad about his breakup with Chelsea. Brett has his eye on Zoe. Ned throws his football and hits Walt in the head. Walt drops his tray, and Brett apologizes.

As Walt ices his head, Chelsea joins Zoe and the Jennifers. The Jennifers express sympathy that she broke up with Ned. Chelsea explains that she and Ned are both moving, so it made sense to do it now. They talk about the party. Jennifer #1 mentions how sad she is for Ned. Chelsea storms away.

Zoe tells the Jennifers not to be so mean to Chelsea. Jennifer #2 mentions that the party is at Brett’s uncle’s house. Walt remarks that it’s actually at his house. The Jennifers get annoyed at him for eavesdropping. 

In chemistry class, Zoe draws eyelashes in Sharpie on Aniq’s safety goggles, and he does the same to her. With Yasper’s encouragement, Aniq asks Zoe if she’s going to Brett’s house party, and she asks him if he wants to meet up there.

Zoe gets up, and Yasper congratulates Aniq. Aniq decides to create a mixtape for Zoe. As Zoe returns, Brett comments on how hot she is and accidentally sprays Walt, his lab partner, with the experiment. Walt goes to get some paper towels.

Walt welcomes the Jennifers to his house party, but they ignore him. Zoe finds Yasper and asks if Aniq is there. She asks Yasper to let her know when Aniq arrives, so he can find her.

Yasper calls Aniq and tells him to get here now. Aniq is still working on his perfect mixtape CD for Zoe.

Chelsea sits alone, dipping her fingers in cake icing. Zoe approaches her. (Walt is also in the kitchen, listening in, as always). Zoe tells Chelsea that the Jennifers are bitches, and she tells Chelsea she’s proud of her.

Zoe pours Chelsea and herself some shots and encourages her to get with someone, but Chelsea isn’t into anyone. They take their shots, with Walt awkwardly trying to join in. Chelsea asks what’s going on with Brett. Zoe insists it’s nothing -- Brett is a player. Brett shows up, asking if they were talking about him.

Outside, Walt pours green dye in the pool. Yasper does a kegstand. Xavier arrives, his hair now blond and styled. Yasper tells him he wants to break up the band but stay friends. Aniq shows up in his Stanford sweatshirt, asking Xavier if he’s seen Zoe. Xavier pantses Aniq and pushes him into the pool.

Aniq climbs out, sees Zoe with Brett, and hides. Brett threatens Xavier, who falls over on his new jacket.

Aniq tries to dry the mixtape cover with a hairdryer in the bathroom. Walt comes in with a change of clothes for Aniq. Walt asks if he thinks people are having a good time. Aniq tells him about his opportunity with Zoe. Walt is about to respond when Aniq turns the hairdryer back on. Walt leaves Aniq alone.

Brett and Zoe sit on the couch. Confirming that Zoe’s going to RISD next year, Brett tells her he’s going to Brown on a squash scholarship, and they will be neighbors in Providence. She hugs him and congratulates him.

Chelsea continues to drink in the kitchen. Xavier approaches her (Walt is on again present). Xavier mentions that he’s going by a new name, trying to create a persona. She is supportive and encouraging. He tells her Ska-pe Diem is over, that Yasper wants to go in another direction.

Chelsea laughs because she said the same thing to Ned the night before. She suggests the cure for breakups is to drink heavily. Xavier laughs, and she pours them drinks. Xavier mentions how cool it is of Brett’s uncle to let them use his house, which angers Walt.

Aniq, in an unfortunate tank top, approaches Zoe and Brett. Zoe is confused at Aniq’s late arrival but assures him it’s fine because Brett kept her company. Zoe mentions that she and Brett will be in Providence next year, and they talk about the fun things they play to do together.

Aniq tries to give her the CD but quickly gives up. He says he’s going to find Yasper. He throws the CD into the garbage and goes outside.

Xavier and Chelsea keep drinking. Chelsea realizes she is very drunk and needs to lie down. Xavier helps her to the main bedroom, where they walk past many people, including Ned and Jennifer #1, who all assume that they are going to the bedroom to have sex.

Meanwhile, Walt is the bedroom’s ensuite bathroom, preparing to streak. Chelsea and Xavier come in, and Walt watches surreptitiously. Xavier helps Chelsea onto the bed and lies down beside her.

Xavier and Chelsea laugh together. He starts trying to kiss her, but she tells him not to, expressing that she is very drunk. He counters with the fact that he is also drunk. Xavier accuses her of leading him on, gets up, and leaves the room.

In the hallway, he is greeted by all the people who want to know if he slept with Chelsea. Xavier lies and says that they had sex. Walt comes out in his bathrobe. Everyone assumes Xavier, Chelsea, and Walt (who they believe is a random stranger) had a three-way. Xavier walks down the hallway getting high-fives.

Aniq drinks heavily with Yasper while watching Brett and Zoe through the window. He blames Xavier for the situation.

Xavier continues to spread lies about his experience with Chelsea, much to Walt’s chagrin.

Chelsea stumbles out of the bedroom. Everyone is looking at her strangely. Jennifer #2 calls her a hoebag, having heard she slept with Eugene. Chelsea is surprised and tries to get her to stop, but Jennifer #2 keeps ranting.

Jennifer #2 notes that Ned is devastated, and Chelsea points out Ned making out with Jennifer #1. Chelsea vomits on Jennifer #2 and heads into the living room.

Chelsea knocks over the trash bin with Aniq’s CD. Walt picks it up. Someone bumps into him, and he accidentally tosses it to Brett. Zoe notices it says her name on it and asks Brett if he made it for her. Brett takes the credit. She asks him to play it, so he does.

The first song plays “Angel” by Shaggy -- her favorite song. They dance and fall onto the couch together.

Aniq hears the song playing, realizing it is Zoe’s favorite song and thinks it’s a sign. Xavier approaches and points out to Aniq that Zoe and Brett are making out, and if Aniq hadn’t fallen in the pool, that could have been him.

Aniq grabs a baseball bat and goes out front, where he starts smashing up Xavier’s car. Everyone follows to watch. Eventually, Xavier comes out and tries to stop Aniq. They get into a fight.

The cops show up, and everyone runs. The cops break up Xavier and Aniq’s fight. Xavier tells them that Aniq was smashing up his car and mentions he is the son of Eugene Duckworth, owner of Gene’s Beans, which the cops love.

The cops let Xavier go, and he hugs them. Aniq tries to leave as well, but the cops stop him. He apologizes, telling them he can’t get arrested or he'll lose his scholarship to Stanford. The cops ask Xavier if he wants to press charges. Aniq begs Xavier not to. Xavier lets the cops cuff him and take him away.

Walk, naked, comes out to see where everyone went. The cops tell him to get dressed and go back inside.

With Walt’s story over, everyone processes what they’ve just heard. Ned clarifies with Chelsea, and she confirms she never hooked up with Xavier that night.

Jennifer #1 lays it all out -- she believes it’s clear Aniq killed Xavier. Walt is frustrated he’s already lost the crowd. Chelsea suggests that Jennifer #1 is deflecting because she killed Xavier. Yasper agrees. Jennifer #1 protests.

Zoe confronts Brett for lying their whole marriage. Brett tries to double down on the lie about the mixtape, but Zoe doesn’t want to hear it. Zoe asks Aniq why he never told her and tells him she made the mixtape into a playlist and still listens to it.

Danner interrupts, saying Aniq’s grudge against Xavier is deep. Aniq pulls out the band-aided revenge note and explains his theory about the E’s and “diarrhea,” saying whoever wrote the note killed Xavier.

As he reads it aloud, he realizes it rhymes. Danner deduces that Xavier wrote lyrics and then threw them in the garbage. She compares it to Xavier’s framed lyrics on the wall, and the handwriting matches.

Yasper notes secretively to Aniq that Xavier must have written “diarrhea” on his neck, which explains why they didn’t get a matching handwriting sample.

Aniq points out that, based on Walt’s story, anyone could have had motivation for killing Xavier. Zoe stands and offers to be questioned. Aniq protests. Danner notes that Zoe had no grudge against Xavier. Zoe says she didn’t -- at the beginning of the night.
