When Flynn Carson and his new guardian, Eve Baird, realize that potential librarians are in danger, they set off to find the ones remaining. They find Cassandra, who has a photographic memory and hallucinations; Ezekiel Jones, who is a master thief; and Jacob Stone, who is an expert in both art history and bar fighting.

Each of the potential libraries are brought back to the Metropolitan Public Library to meet Flynn and figure out why they are being targeted. They realize that the Serpent Brotherhood has hopes of releasing magic back into the world, and they need The Crown of King Arthur to do it. So, the group sets off to find the artifact first.
