Alice's plan to create a Quentin golem goes awry when a 12-year-old Quentin shows up instead.

Julia scorns Alice for her efforts, as the golem can only rest once it fulfills its purpose, something a young Quentin isn't able to do.

Julia informs Alice that she thinks something inside of Alice asked for this version of Quentin, not the one who could decipher the random page.

A young Quentin helps Alice realize she didn't want help because if she got closure, it would mean Quentin was really gone. Afterward, the Quentin golem disappears.

Meanwhile, Julia is looking for help on trying to find a pattern for the surges, and Alice points her to a woman with a rare discipline that can predict circumstances.

Eliot and Margo try to find a way to save their friends and Fillory.

Eliot visits Jane Chatwin and steals her time traveling gadgets.

Despite their best efforts, they are unable to save both their friends and Fillory, so Margo decides to save her kingdom over Josh.

However, Eliot ignores Margo's orders and writes to Josh and Fen about how to jump 300 years in the future.

Eliot also ponders about sending a letter to Quentin before the Seam.

Kady hooks up with a hedge witch named Yu-jin, who it is revealed to have been sent by someone to wipe her and Pete's memory about the stolen book depository.

Yu-jin kills himself before Kady can find out the truth.
