During a nightmare, Philip sees Hitler's face on all of his stamps. Herman is among those cleaning Nazi slurs off Jewish headstones. Rabbi Bengelsdorf is starting a program, the Office of American Absorption, to further assimilate Jews into the United States. Evelyn shows off her office to Sandy. She encourages him to participate in the Just Folks summer program, which sends city boys to meet country folk. Herman refuses to let him go. Alvin gets assigned to a project involving pulse navigation. Bess looks into moving to Canada but the Levins don't qualify. Alvin writes a letter to girlfriend June before his mission. Lindbergh is promoting the Germans as a buffer against Communism. Shepsis proposes moving to Canada to Herman. It's tense when Evelyn comes to dinner. Herman and Evelyn get into it over the Just Folks program. Philip asks Sheldon about his father's health. Herman still wants to buy a house but Bess points out that Jewish families are fleeing to Canada. Bess tells him that thanks to Alvin's service, the family is on the preferred immigration list. She suggests a family trip to Canada rather than Washington D.C. as they'd been planning. Herman doesn't listen. Evelyn feels the ghost of Lionel's late wife. But he proposes to her. Lindbergh is sending supplies to the Nazis. He's also planning concentration camps in the west. Taylor, a professional guide, offers his services to the Levins and Herman accepts. Bess gets paranoid while in D.C. as Herman spouts his opinions. The Levins get kicked out of their hotel room. The clerk calls the police when Herman makes a scene. The cops back the clerk. After an obnoxious patron accosts Herman at lunch, Herman serenades Bess. He decides to let Sandy do Just Folks. Alvin loses a leg in battle.
