Recap

Kat returned to 2000. It doesn't look like anyone is home, so she enters the house. She puts on her father's coat, looks into a bookbag, and sees the missing posters on the dining room table.

She heads up to her childhood bedroom, remembering sharing time with Alice. In Jacob's room, she remembers his excitement over saving money for carnival games where he'll win a big prize.

Del and Colton get home, and they're screaming at each other. Kat's almost spotted in the basement, but Colton heads back upstairs before he sees her. Del storms out after him. Fine, leave. We both know you'd rather be anywhere but here.

When Kat returns to the present, Alice is on the porch, confused that Kat went back when she said she was done with the pond.

Byron will be staying with them while he recuperates, but that doesn't make Kat want to forgive him for firing her.

Kat shares what she learned in the past with Elliot, particularly her disappointment that she never understood what her parents were going through. She always thought they were the fairytale, so now she worries about what hope the rest of them have.

The ladies arrive at Del's. They're there to tease Del and Byron for shacking up. Tea is on the menu, but they'd prefer cocktails, which they then drink out of mason jars while playing poker.

When Alice passes through, the ladies spot heartache and ask her to join the game so they can talk about it.

Kat's back at the pond. She cannot get thoughts of her happy parents out of her head.

Alice wins a hand, and Nick's mothers tell her a new business is looking for musical talent. There's a knock at the door. It's Nick. He doesn't recognize her. She runs out the front door as Kat arrives. Kat is happy that he didn't recognize Alice, but Alice is sad that he didn't.

Kat will take care of it, but Alice needs her best friend. She heads to the pond while Kat warmly embraces Nick, but she feels a little weird knowing what she does.

Del and Colton aren't getting along when Alice arrives. Kat apologizes on their behalf. The whole family is zombies these days. Kat feels invisible with her parents, and she can't wait to get out of there. She's going to apply to colleges in the states to be near Brady, who has really been there for her.

Kat wishes they could talk when Alice wasn't around. Alice says it's like they live in different times. Kat wonders what's up that Nick asked her to be her girlfriend, she never answered and hasn't been back in weeks.

Kat, Elliot, and Nick head to a local watering hole, where Nick gets drinks while Kat and Elliot discuss Alice. Nick arrives with drinks, and Kat cheers love as a total sham.

In the past, Alice asks Nick to talk.

Bryon talks about being embedded during war times. He lost his wife at that time, and Del is sorry she brought it up. His wife's name was Laura. He decided not to be married to her memory, so he took his ring off long ago, but notes it's different for everyone since Del still wears hers.

Alice admits to Nick that she just wants to be there with him all the time, but she can't, so she thinks they need to break up. Elliot and Kat are listening from across the room. Kat says it's tragic. Kat gets a secret message from Brady that he misses her. Alice tells Nick that someday, he won't even remember her. Crying, she leaves, asking Kat to make sure Nick's OK.

When Nick brings up relationships, Kat wonders if Nick remembers her old friend Alice. Nick said no, he doesn't remember. He guesses she just didn't stand out. Then the DJ calls Kat's name to sing karaoke.

Kat sings Jagged Little Pill, and if that's Chyler Leigh, well, damn, she's an excellent singer. While Kat is singing, Nick tells Elliot he got engaged. He wonders when Elliot will make his move on Kat. When the moment is right, he says.

When they get home, pizza in Kat's arms, she says come on, will you just kiss me already? She knows he wants to, and he knows she wants him to. She wants to do it before it gets awkward. He mentions perfection again, and she's not into it. You don't get happily ever after, let alone a perfect moment. So why risk their friendship for something that will inevitably end badly? He says he knows she doesn't really mean that, but at that moment, she does.

In the morning, Kat and Alice commiserate, and then Kat tells Alice Nick's engaged. She can't imagine what she must be feeling. But at the very least, Alice knows he's happy.

Alice says she's not thinking of that. She's thinking of her Nick. Alice tries to explain how long ago it was for Nick so as not to be upset that he doesn't remember her.

Kat is going back again, and Alice wishes she'd share why with her. Kat isn't ready. Back there, she crawls in the back of Colton's truck when he says he'll be back in a few hours.

Del was chopping wood back then, and she's chopping wood now. Byron wants to help, but he gets a splinter just handling the wood.

It's raining, so it's a good thing there's a tarp in the back. Colton is meeting with a private investigator named Morgan. He's hoping for leads, but it's cold. Morgan doesn't think he's ever going to find something. Colton believes that if Jacob had drowned, then his body would have washed up. Colton wants to know if it's the money. Morgan says that ethically, he can't do it. Colton begs, but Morgan leaves.

Del removes Byron's splinter. When Byron says he wants to kiss her, she drops the needle, and they both bend down and bump heads twice. She's reticent since he's sitting in Colton's chair. He wonders if she wants him to get out.

Alice meets with Spencer and Zoey. She runs right into Nick. It's awkward, but it's not the end of the world. She's OK.

Colton is crying in the back of the boat. Del is walking over. Kat is watching from the barn, so she sees when her dad calls out, I love you, Delilah. I love you so much. Her fantasy isn't over.

Kat runs to see Elliot. She's so happy. Colton wasn't having an affair. He always loved mom. And now, she's not waiting for Elliot's perfect moment. She makes this one perfect.

Kat's next stop is the boat to look for the dossier Morgan gave Colton. It's all there. Kat takes it to her mom to give her comfort, to bring her closure, ensure he wasn't sneaking around.

Del doesn't want to talk about it. She knows there was another woman. She saw her with her own eyes. She showed up crying at Colton's funeral.

Alice is on his way to Elliot's. Nick is telling Elliot that he hasn't felt like that with anyone since Alice, and he felt weird saying it to Kat. You never forget your first love, he says. Alice beams.

Byron is packing. There's no room for him in her life. There's healing to be done. Acceptance. But Del says that if it's the right person, you don't have to try so hard.

Alice tells Kat she is doing better. Kat said her search only led to more questions. Byron comes out the front door and tells them to take care of Del. Del watches Byron drive away, seeing Colton's truck doing the same.

Alice: No, you don't because you married your first love, and mine's doomed before it even started.
