This Is Us Season 4 Episode 9 revolves around difficult feelings during Thanksgiving.

Nicky has a hard time reintegrating into the family. He feels he doesn't belong and almost doesn't come to Philly with Kevin. His feelings intensify on a road trip with Randall, where he realizes that little Annie has no idea who he is.

Throughout the trip, Nicky recalls a Thanksgiving with Jack shortly before Nicky went to Vietnam. He and Jack escaped their miserable family circumstances and went to a bar, where Nicky won money on a football game and ordered five pounds of shrimp.

Meanwhile, Rebecca is offended when Randall again suggests she needs to see a doctor and takes off to see a movie. Rebecca seems disoriented and out of it as she wanders around Philly, even mistaking a young black man for William, and Randall and Kevin become increasingly worried when she doesn't return Randall's calls.

Kate and Toby also have problems. Kate tells Toby that she let Gregory feed Jack first and later tells Beth that she resents Toby losing the weight without her. Beth encourages her to talk to Toby before their marriage implodes, but before she can she discovers Toby is texting with his exercise partners about his problems with her.
