This is Us Season 4 Episode 1 revolves around first meetings.

In the past, Rebecca invites Jack to meet her parents for the first time. Jack is too poor to buy a sports coat but is able to borrow one -- however, he is not able to impress Rebecca's parents and her father warns him that he's going to stop this relationship from going any further.

Meanwhile, in the future a blind man meets a waitress when he goes out to breakfast after accidentally breaking a plate. The man forms a relationship with the waitress and they eventually marry and she gets pregnant. We jump back to the past and Kate and Toby learn that their infant son's vision is not improving and that he will be mostly blind for the rest of his life.

A woman named Cassidy returns from a tour of duty in the Middle East with severe PTSD. She becomes an alcoholic and seeks help at the VA Center, where a drunk Nicky breaks the window of the building she is sitting in.

And a teenage father named Malik struggles to take care of his baby with the help of his parents. His mother has to work the night shift and tells him being responsible means skipping his friend's barbecue, but his father offers to babysit -- and at the barbecue Malik meets Deja.
