Recap

At a gas station, Agent 355 siphons some gas while Dr. Mann gives Yorick a check-up. Yorick attempts to make nice with 355, but she's unimpressed. They find an abandoned camper van and get it on the road.

Yorick and Dr. Mann discuss magic tricks. Dr. Mann ties Yorick's hands for him so that he can show her how he escapes. Agent 355 falls asleep at the wheel and crashes the van.

In the dark. Dr. Mann comes to, finding Yorick unconscious. Dr. Mann searches for 355 but the cab is empty. A convoy of cars approaches and Dr. Mann flags them down. They have large guns.

In DC, Captain Nguyen and her sergeants relay their information to President Brown, General Reed, Regina, and Christine. The captain tells them that they tracked 355 from Harvard, where she had been looking for the geneticist Dr. Mann. Captain Nguyen mentions that at the church there was a man with them, who she doesn't believe is trans, due to the fact that Dr. Mann is a geneticist. President Brown downplays the possibility of a cismale survivor, but Nguyen is insistent, saying he was six-foot tall and had a monkey with him. President Brown leaves, telling Christine to get Nguyen and her sergeants reassigned.

While making up a care package for Christine, Kimberly complains to her mother about President Brown, but Marla defends her. Kimberly wants her mother to be more active politically, like Regina. Marla calls Regina a nutjob, but Kimberly says her father chose Regina so they should support her. Kimberly tries to encourage her mother but Marla responds by saying Kimberly hasn't displayed enough grief.

Yorick awakens naked in a bed beside a sleeping, clothed woman he doesn't recognize. He gets up, gets dressed, and searches for Ampersand. He follows the sound of chirping as he explores. He hears the sounds of people chatting and grabs a trophy as a weapon, but someone sneaks up from behind him and takes it.

Some of the people who live in the house -- Janis, Sonia, Dominique, J.R., Ray, April -- serve Yorick a cooked breakfast. They question him about his survival after realizing that both he and Ampersand have a Y chromosome. Yorick realizes they have electricity. They say it's down to teamwork. They ask if he knows of any other survivors like him -- though he does not, he hopes there are some out there.

Yorick continues to ask about Dr. Mann and Agent 355, referring to them as friends. When Janis asks why his friends had him tied up, he explains he is an escape artist and was showing them a trick.

Agent 355 wakes up in the forest, disoriented and bleeding from the head. Coming to the road, she spies a car wreck. She flashes back to a car wreck from her childhood.

Agent 355 actually wakes up in a cell with Dr. Mann, who is banging on the door, calling for help. Dr. Mann tells 355 that the people who locked them up also took Yorick. She says there were four or five of them, all armed.

President Brown addresses the protesting crowd outside the Pentagon, telling them there are buses to take them -- if they want to go -- to the "Safe Settlement Zone." She reiterates that she still doesn't know what caused the event. She spies someone in the crowd that she recognizes and lets her in -- it is Beth, Yorick's girlfriend.

President Brown welcomes Beth into her room. Beth asks about Hero and President Brown responds saying they couldn't find her. She asks about Beth's mom. Beth tells her that her mom passed away a few weeks after the event and she was unable to reach her in time. Beth tells President Brown that she was on her bike when the Event occurred and that she couldn't go back into the apartment because she didn't want to see Yorick like that.

President Brown takes Beth to the control room, where Aisha updates President Brown on a new strain of influenza.

Kimberly questions Regina about the briefing earlier. Kimberly asks who was with Agent "Bergin" and describes Hero. Marla urges Kimberly to stop asking questions. Regina replies that it was a six-foot man with a monkey. Marla drops her glass in shock.

Yorick tries to figure out what's been done with Agent 355 and Dr. Mann. He asks who's in charge and they tell him that they make decisions as a group. He insists that he is not valuable. They tell him they have not decided what to do with him.

Sonia asks about Beth -- he was saying her name in his sleep. Yorick asks why he woke up naked. The others are unimpressed with Sonia, but she insists his clothes were filthy and needed to be washed. Yorick tells them that Beth is his girlfriend. They ask about all the weaponry in the truck. More women show up to meet Yorick -- the welcoming committee.

Back in their cell, Agent 355 pulls out her shoelace to use as a weapon. She deduces that they are in a women's prison and that whoever had been in the cell must have escaped -- in fact, there are likely many female convicts in the area.

Agent 355 tells Dr. Mann about the scientist shortlist and how she wasn't on it. 355 starts to feel strange and Dr. Mann examines her head wound, stating that she needs a proper doctor. Dr. Mann asks about 355's home life. 355 opens up about a car accident that killed her parents when she was twelve.

Yorick is thrown into the cell with them. He catches them up, telling him that there are about fifty convicts and they are having a meeting to decide what to do with them.

Regina and Kimberly discuss the monkey and what to do with the information. Kimberly insists that they need real allies. Kimberly now believes that Yorick was chosen by God and that they need him to rebuild society. Marla listens quietly.

While Beth eats, President Brown asks her more questions. Beth doesn't believe the Event was natural. She tells President Brown that Yorick proposed and she refused him, but she wishes she hadn't. Beth asks if Yorick's body was found, but President Brown replies that it was only a license, like everyone else. Christine comes to get President Brown and Beth tags along.

In the conference room, President Brown pulls Christine aside to tell her that Beth doesn't know about Yorick. While President Brown gets to work, Christine and Beth chat about that state of things. Marla enters the room in her nightgown, accusing President Brown of gaslighting her, wondering why it couldn't have been one of her beloved men. President Brown tries to get Marla to leave, but after saying her piece, Marla leaves quietly.

Back in the cell, Agent 355 readies for a fight. Yorick and 355 have a "friendly" fight that ends with 355's shoelace around his neck. She pulls away, feeling faint, and vomits. Sonia opens the door and smells the vomit. Yorick tells her that Agent 355 is sick. Sonia tells them the group has voted and decided they can stay until Agent 355 recovers -- they have a proper doctor -- but they are also welcome to leave if they want to.

Kimberly chides her mother for the display. Marla says she just wants to go home, but Kimberly tells her that Lynchburg flooded and their home is no longer there. Kimberly stresses that God has a plan -- Marla tells her there is no God. Kimberly prays as Marla zones out.

Beth has a shower. When she emerges, she asks President Brown about Marla. President Brown explains to Beth that Marla was with her three grandsons when the Event occurred and has never recovered. Beth tells President Brown she won't stay -- she just wanted to temporarily be with someone else who loved Yorick. President Brown tries to give Beth a warm coat, but Beth refuses, as it has a Presidential seal on it. They hug and Beth leaves.

Yorick puts Agent 355 to bed. She tells him to keep his mouth shut and not to trust anyone, especially Sonia.

Yorick heads out, where there's a barbecue, decorate lights, fire pits, and banjo music. Sonia approaches Yorick and they chat while Yorick eats. Yorick asks about Janis -- Sonya tells him that Janis stabbed two people to death in 1978 while she was strung out. Yorick asks about the vote -- Sonia says it was close.

Dominique and Janis discuss the situation. Dom thinks Yorick and his friends are a threat to their way of life -- they were being pursued by someone. Dom also thinks Sonia will get them in trouble.

Kimberly goes to the memorial and pulls Yorick's photo off of the wall.

Marla steps off the roof of the Pentagon to her death.

Kimberly returns to find her mother's bed empty except for a note. Frantically, she runs into the hallway ad collapses, sobbing. President Brown wakes from the cries.

Beth returns to her group of people in a van. She relays to them the information she has about what it's like inside -- they have warm water, food, and power, but it could all fall apart very easily.
