The Walking Dead: Remembering Carl Grimes

at .

As a kid, Carl Grimes could sometimes get on your last nerve on The Walking Dead.

But that kid also grew up in a zombie-filled world with other kids few and far between, and if that's not enough to try the patience of kids 0-100, what would be?

We're giving Carl a pass on all the little things and remembering his life through pictures.

For more Carl, watch The Walking Dead online.

1. Happier Times

Remember when Carl was just a small little kid and he and his mom thought they were in this new world without dad and husband, Rick? How things changed.

2. Haircuts!

When Carl lost his mom, he tossed haircuts to the wind, too.

3. Guns Were a Part of His Life

Shane introduced guns to Carl at an early age, and it wasn't long until they were like an extension of Carl's arms.

4. Carl Grew Up Fast

If you have a gun, you might as well swear like a cowboy, too.

5. Ready, Aim

Such a young boy to be killing so many people, whether they were dead or alive.

6. Weapons Master

Carl protected everyone, usually without thinking about himself.

7. Blood on His Face

Blood on Carl's face was just another fact of everyday life.

8. He Didn't Beat This World

Lori told Carl he was going to beat this world, but will his little sister Judith?

9. A Good Son

Carl was a good son, but that didn't mean he throw tantrums like any other kid. Wishing his dad dead was a doozy.

10. Pudding for Everyone!

Will you ever eat a mound of chocolate pudding again without thinking of Carl? You haven't and you won't.

11. Best Friends

Carl and Michonne connected like no others, and she made sure he had the fun he couldn't with other "kids" around.

12. On Patrol

Carl had a way with the walkers.

13. Smile, Carl!

Carl was a lot more of a sourpuss before things went bad.

14. You'll Put Your Eye Out!

Not every kid falls prey to the "you'll put your eye out" parental line, but Carl did with nothing to do but wear a patch. It rushed him right out teen angst and into adulthood.

15. Romance

At least Carl knew love in his brief time on earth. Thanks, Enid!

16. A Leader of the Pack

Carl began leading the group long before his death. Now we can only imagine how great of a man he would have been, but it's up to Rick to carry on his son's legacy.

17. Gutted

Carl was bitten in the gut by a walker, and those closest to him were gutted, as well. There is something very ethereal about this photo, don't you think? Daryl said Carl saved everyone and that was on him, and this photo is savior-like.

18. Carl was Brave

Standing up to Negan and saying he would die if it would make the world a better place for all the kids in it was rather heroic, not to mention prophetic. As one of the few kids to grow up in this new world, Carl was always brave.

19. A Good Brother

Carl was a wonderful brother to Judith even before she was born, but ensuring he made a memory with her was so sweet. His final conversations with everyone were uplifting and hopeful, and that's what Rick needs to be to carry on for his son. Rest in peace, Carl.

The Walking Dead Season 8 Episode 9 Quotes

It's not too late to walk back from something decided.

Ezekial

Ezekial: I've ferried my people to freedom. What befalls me now matters not.
Gavin: It matters, you idiot!
