Round Table: "Time Has Come Today"

at . Comments

This week on the Round Table, Izzie grieves, Callie cooks, and mostly-unnecessary blasts from the past are all the rage. Our esteemed panel weighs in on last night's episode...

Why the heck is Finn's hat in any Meredith-related ring?

My Hat Is In.
McCritic: Because it lost a bet? I have no idea. Meredith can be sweet and all - but between the hysterics, and obvious parallel, over Doc being put to sleep and then, you know, the sex with Derek at the prom, it's obvious where this doctor's heart lies. Stevie Wonder has 20/20 vision compared to you, Finn. Find a girl that appreciates you.

AwayWithMerDer: Duh, 'cause they were never exclusive. Obviously he can't be angry at Meredith, who was being celibate, for sleeping with a married man. Go Team Finn. He's not pathetic or anything.

iheartizzie: He adores her, despite her flaws. You have to wonder why he's even bothering, though... if he figured out what happened at the prom, he should know his chances are remote. Yet you have to admire him for going down swinging.

Flashbacks: I want more? Pretty huge bore?

iheartizzie: The flashback of Derek leaving Addison was compelling. It was painful and emotionally charged -- even more so than the powerful scene of Miranda and Omar sobbing on opposite sides of the door. That glimpse into Derek's past tells a lot about him. As for the rest of them, they didn't offer anything new. Yes, Derek met Meredith at the bar! What's the point?

AwayWithMerDer: I want more Addison in no pants. Yum. The other flashbacks? Pretty huge bore.

Dr. Burke Closes the Deal?
McCritic: Given the brief nature of them -- and the lack of any new information revealed from these characters' pasts -- I'd refer to them as a "pretty huge bore." But I am curious if Preston and his killer purple tie/shirt combo closed the deal with that fox at the party as well as he closes incisions on the operating table.

Does George smell what Callie is cooking?

AwayWithMerDer: I sure hope so. It looked like some sort of Italian. Maybe a nice pesto sauce? Either way, some authentic Italian cooking from this Latina character. And if George doesn't notice your cooking? Count me in!

McCritic: I think so. He just needs time to chew, swallow and digest it. We don't want our fragile intern choking to death, do we?

iheartizzie: Probably. Did you see how many things she had going in the kitchen? The aroma surely filled most of the house when he walked in.

What's next for the grieving Isobel Stevens?

McCritic: Two words: Cup. Cakes.

AwayWithMerDer: I think she needs 50 cc's of Karev. Stat. And with the new haircut he got in the one day between seasons 2 and 3? What a stud!

iheartizzie: Reading the classifieds. I heart Izzie, but no way our girl is getting back into the internship program after pulling a stunt like that. Nor could she find the strength. Hate to say it, but the pompous Alex we saw at that cocktail party was right.

Hello! Good Site! Thanks you! equqieoilslrc

Just wanted to write a response to TeamAddision's question about our favorite female star. My favorite is Cristina. I like her because she isn't perfect. She is one of those people who is so driven and competitive and competent that she hasn't learned that it is okay to not be in control all of the time. Preston allows her the safety net to be vulnerable. Sandra Oh is incredible in this part. I go from wanting to just shake her (when she couldn't be there for Burke after he was shot, when she acts in selfish and self indulgent ways) to just loving her when looks so completely stricken (when she said she gave up her key 20 minutes ago, when she asks him not to die, when she was lyiing in the hospital bed crying after she lost the baby and he comes and wraps her in his arms). I love her character and the relationship between Burke and Cristina. Watching their love for each other grow and seeing how it changes her has been one of my favorite parts about the show. Of course, I also love Meredith and Izzie so it is almost impossible to go wrong here no matter who is on the screen. In fact, I think that is the best part about all of the characters. No one is perfect. No one is always right. Every character is flawed and that's what makes them so relatable. We can see parts of ourselves in all of them.

someone asked for the 'truth' speech at the end:
"Time flies.
Time waits for no man.
Time heals all wounds.
All any of us wants is more time.
Time to stand up, time to grow up, time to let go.
Time." and the bathroom floor one: Meredith: I don't what to say to you Izzie: When Dylan died, when, when the bomb went off, did you feel like... Meredith: What? Izzie: Like you were moving in slow motion? Meredith: He was there and then he wasn't. Like I blinked and he was gone. Izzie: I feel like.. I'm moving in slow motion. Like I'm moving in slow motion and everything around me is moving so fast and I just wanna go back.. to when things were normal.. when I wasn't poor Izzie laying on the bathroom floor in her prom dress with her.. her dead fiancé. But I am, so I can't. And I'm.. just stuck. And there's all this pressure cause everyone's hovering around me waiting for me to do something or say some thing or flip out or yell or cry some more and I'm happy to play my part. I'm happy to say the lines and do what ever it is that I'm supposed to be doing if it will make everyone feel more comfortable.. but I don't know how to do this. I don't know how to be this person. I don't know who this person is. Meredith: Izzie.. Izzie: How did this happen? How did we end up here? Why am I alone? Where's Denny?? Meredith: You're not alone izz.. anything else?? always happy to help :)

I was wondering if anyone taped this episode, and if they could please post the little speech Izzie says to Meredith on the bathroom floor. I thought it was beautifully written, but I can't seem to find the quote anywhere yet. I'm hoping one of you might have taped it, and could jot down the dialogue!
Thanks so much if you can! it would really mean a lot!

In response to TeamAddison's poll, it is almost hard to pick just one favorite and that's what I love about this show so much. I like them all in one way or another. Meredith is my favorite, but Baily comes in a close second. And I do like Addison, but absolutly not with Derek.
As for the mellowness of the show, they had to have a filler. We all knew they were going to drag out Mer's choice or else there would not be anything to drag us back to the couch every Thursday in anticipation.
As other have said, it is nice to share my freakish addiction to this show with everyone else. It is such a weird obsession because I normally don't watch tv at all. Now I do every thurday night.

Yayness! Seeing all these wonderfully thought out comments about the season 3 premiere and seeing that I am not alone in my psychotic obsession makes me very happy! I have to agree with the some peopl that the episode was very mellow for Greys, BUT it was still worth watching. Hands down, my favorite flashback was between Derek & Addison. You really saw that they used to have something special together and when Addie sits on the staircase and holds onto the bannister, loved it! Although, I adore Addison, I would like Meredith and Derek to get back together, as long as Addison has Mark or someone to be with. They just cannot take away Addison, her character adds so much to the show. Look back @ season 1, although it is the most briliant season 1 of any tv show ever, it is missing the Addie element. I also loved Meredith's childhood flashback. Overall, I am so excited about this season and I hate waiting a week for the next episode so I have to surf the net looking for ways to talk about Greys and waste the time until the next episode airs. Its been great sharing. I was thinking we should take a poll for fun . . . who is everyones favorite female character? (Choices: Meredith, Christina, Izzie, Addison, Bailey, & Callie) My answer: ADDISON . . .SERIOUSLY!

pretty good, not exactly what i'd call a standout season premire for greys but ok. it wasn't exactly a very balanced episode medicene/drama wise so it kinda took away from the very basis of the show. i liked the flashbacks but they weren't very informative except for the ellis/richard part and the addy/derek part. Ah to merder- the ball is in mers court- more power to her, here's a new twist- i like how derek tells her that the ball is in her court, it shows that derek is letting her have a choice of whether she stills wants derek or not, its a very good thing- as to this spoiler person= addy and MCSTEAMY get back together? really? wow. didn't see that coming. not. but its good cuz derek won't have to worry about her anymore! yeah!!!

I loved this episode. I found the flashbacks to be significant to what each character was going through at specific times. I'm a fan of a Meredith and Derek coupling. Yeah, he screwed up by not being forthright about his marriage and what he left behind in NYC, but none of us are without baggage, right? I guess that while it was difficult to witness, I can even understand Derek making the choice to give it a try with Addison. I don't think he did it out of genuine love for her, but out of an obligation to try to make his marriage work. But in the end, he couldn't deny that he was in love with Meredith. He could admit it to himself and even to Addison in Joe's bar during the holidays, but probably saw no point in hurting Meredith further by making that same confession to her. He tried to let Meredith move on while making every effort in keeping his vows to Addison. Alas, Meredith is right - we can't help who we love. I have issues with Izzie's paralyzing grief over Denny. His death was terribly sad to be certain, but how much of a foundation was created in the short amount of time Izzie knew him? Her making the comparison to Yang/Burke's relationship isn't fair. The show does a great job showing us where these people have come from and the efforts they're making to move forward. I'm not an Addison hater, but the MerDer chemistry is simply to strong to ignore - the universe would spin curiously off it's axis if they don't end up together. I have a serious addiction to this show. And yet, I'm not ashamed to admit that.

My biggest problem with the show was that Meredith did not have a big come back speech for Derek. She has had so many great speeches (choose me and the you do not get to call me a whore) and then he tells her I chose wrong and she says nothing. Why not say prove it or you are still married or something. Also, totally unrelated but does anyone else have a problem hearing what the actors are saying when music is being played in the background. There seems to be a lot of background noise too. (like people talking in the waiting rooms, and in the halls, etc.) I have a problem hearing some of the lines. Is it just me?

I hate to bust all of your bubbles, but the guy that plays Finn is only signed on to play 7 episodes this season..and the guy that plays Mark is coming back for a couple of episodes.

Grey's Anatomy Season 3 Episode 1 Quotes

"There are moments. O'Malley... moments that in a split second your life changes forever, and before you know it... you're somewhere else."

[in flashback]
Meredith: I have no story. I'm just a girl in a bar.
Derek: I'm just a guy in a bar.
