It's a back and forth battle.

Just like Meredith and Addison were vying for the affection of a certain doctor for the first part of Season Two, Grey's Anatomy and CSI have been neck in neck in ratings as the new fall season gets underway.

Of course, we all know who came out on top in the battle for McDreamy's heart; and, based on this week's rankings, we all know who will continue to dominate the airwaves.

Grey's Anatomy beat CSI head-to-head in Thursday night's primetime race, leading ABC to a nightly victory in the coveted adults 18-49 demographic while CBS prevailed in viewers.

"Sometimes a Fantasy" was the night's top show in both total viewership (22.5 million) and adults 18-49 (9.2 rating/13 share), according to estimates by Nielsen Media Research. It was a little more than one million viewers ahead of CSI and well ahead of the CBS stalwart in the key demographic.

I think it absolutely deserves the viewership that it has. Grey's has everything. There is drama, romance, and laughter with characters as complex and multidimensional as found anywhere on television. I just wish that we could have more of Burke and Cristina, together this season. Even on the ABC webpage with pictures from the episodes there are not nearly enough pictures of Burke or Burke and Cristina. In fact there are more of Addision than my favorite couple. What's up with that? Also, has anyone else had trouble playing the downloads from ABC.com? This past week's episode stalls out every few seconds. I have never been able to watch past the ice water scene. So glad I saw it last Thursday night.

Grey's Anatomy Quotes

I want to marry you. I want to have kids with you. I want to build us a house. I want to settle down and grow old with you. I want to die when I'm 110 years old, in your arms. I don't want 48 uninterrupted hours. I want a lifetime. Mmm. Do you see what happens? I say things like that and you fight the urge to run in the opposite direction. It's okay, I understand. I didn't, but now I do, I do. You're just getting started and I've been doing this for a long time now. Deep down, you're still an intern, and you're not ready.

When we say things like "people don't change" it drives scientist crazy because change is literally the only constant in all of science. Energy. Matter. It's always changing, morphing, merging, growing, dying. It's the way people try not to change that's unnatural. The way we cling to what things were instead of letting things be what they are. The way we cling to old memories instead of forming new ones. The way we insist on believing despite every scientific indication that anything in this lifetime is permanent. Change is constant. How we experience change that's up to us. It can feel like death or it can feel like a second chance at life. If we open our fingers, loosen our grips, go with it, it can feel like pure adrenaline. Like at any moment we can have another chance at life. Like at any moment, we can be born all over again.
